Gillies played last year, so I doubt it has anything to do with that.

No, it is just the best U20 hockey players in Canada, in general, take the CHL route rather than the NCAA route.

Klimchuk looks like a solid pick every time I hear about him. He seems like an under the radar prospect that we all tend to forget about with the spotlight on other prospects. Good for him for making the WJ's again.

Yea, the last NCAA player to make Canada was Jayden Schwartz, prior to that I think it was Jonathan Toews, but I may be forgetting someone.

He hasn't made the WJs previously and hasn't made this one either. He was just invited to camp.

I've never seen Greg Chase play. The Hitman fans here must be pretty familiar with him having watched him for the last few seasons.
He was drafted in the 7th round, but put up pretty good scoring totals last season.
What do you think his odds are of making the WJ team?
Does he have glaring flaws, like skates like he's got a piano strapped to his ass?
Product of Virtanen?
Thanks.

Dylan Olson was at UMD when he made the club.
I just thought it was odd, usually there are a few who are playing NCAA in the mix.

Bennett and Klimchuk got the invites.
If McDonald gets moved to a contender he will be in contention come December as well. Hunter Smith will be in tough but he's huge so a big start to the season can put him on the map.

You need to be able to skate to play world juniors as a general rule, I doubt Smith gets any consideration.

Nemisz made the team.
But I do think Smith would need to have a huge start to get any consideration.

Smith isn't the type of player that HC typically considers for the WJCs
But does Mattson have a chance of playing for Sweden?

I would think so. He's played for their international U-16, U-17 and U-18 teams.

I've seen him play a fair bit in the Dub and he's become a very good junior player but I'd say a long shot to make this team. I actually think he could have a pro career and has a shot in the NHL. He's the kind of guy the Oilers need.

BTW,
Rafikov is one of 10 defencemen to come with the Russians to play in the exhibition games for this week.
Russia plays Canada on August 6.
And no, Mattsson is not with Swedish team that has come to play in the exhibition games.

There just haven't been that many highly ranked NCAA Canadians recently. For example in 2012 the highest picked Canadian going the college route was Jankowski. Last year it was Adam Tambellini in the 3rd Round.
This camp is generally for high profile players and there just haven't been any in the NCAA.

You have to think there's a very good chance both Klimchuk and Bennett make this team

Bennett will be there unless he is in Calgary
