Don't mind the Flames management doing their due diligence and looking at all methods for improving the team. It can't hurt to check in and see what can be done. This, along with the "Flames considering 8 guys for their 1st round pick" tidbit, is good news as far as I'm concerned.

I don't want to trade for Spezza if we are giving up top picks or prospects but im just fine with the rumored offer. No worries though, even if Spezza agreed I doubt Murray takes that deal.

What would constitute a "fair" deal for a one year rental then?

Trading a draft pick and one of our young players for a guy who has plateaued goes completely against the direction this team is going in.
This is a move that would have made sense five years ago, but not now.
No chance this happens though.

Don't mind making an offer. Don't like the actual offer though. Value wise it's close for a first line center who while old, is 30 not 33.
In the end I'm happier if Ottawa says no.
Edit: Looks like he just turned 31.

Berglund, 1st and prospect.
Flames can't be handing out 1st's and I really don't see the veterans on the flames getting it done. In other words not a good fit as trade partners.

So, if Flames trade surging Baklund for an older Spezza does that mean the rebuild has been so successful and we are ready for 9th place finishes again.......
I too are going to vote that we are being trolled.

Backlund is just beginning to come into his own. Why would we trade him for an aging, injury prone whiner? Are we ready to compete for the Stanley Cup next season?

Doesn't Spezza have a NMC? Why would he wave it to go to the Flames? Wouldn't he rather be on a contender?

If you read the article it says that Spezza has flames on no trade list.
It's probably the only part of the article Garriouch got right

I got no idea why we would make that deal. That's the type of a deal you may consider if you are a contender, and that's only if you believe Spezza has what it takes to win something.

not saying its true, but the Flames could do this and trade Spezza at the deadline
value wise there is nothing wrong with that deal

After the Cammy return (nice big zero) or Moulsen, Vanek I would be nervous.
Looks like GM's don't want to pay as much as they used to for rentals.

Am I the only one that doesn't mind that offer? While backlund had a good year it's only his first real full season where he stayed healthy and productive. While I agree it would suck to only get Spezza for a year if he was willing to waive I would assume he would be willing to sign an extension.

so what do you expect to get for wideman/hudler when the time comes? they are not going to be on the team when it matters again
Backlund the jury is still out, he usually plays well after the team is out of it and we all get excited and then regresses
2nd rounder has maybe a 10% chance of being a player for that team that drafts him

Looks to me that some people don't like Spezza, plus his age, injuries.
Anyway, Spezza said he doesn't like the pressure of Canadian city, so 0 chance he comes here.

Doesn't seem worth the risk to me, and why would Spezza want to move around twice (including a not-playoff-bound, Canadian team)?

Not sure when Wideman's time will come. If he plays to the end of his contract not much. I like Hudler, he can pass the puck, without him I doubt Monahan would have had 22 goals, he is good with kids. Got to have some veteran players.
The part of that deal that I don't like is giving up Backlund. He finally showed huge improvement, Swedish players have tendency to blossom later on. Perhaps he can be good and he is younger.
A lot of people are saying Spezza has attitude problem, does he?

Backlund shows huge improvement after the team is out of it almost every season. Then he gets a huge chance to start the season and blows it
anyway its not gonna happen, just saying I'm surprised people scoff at the value...Sens fans would NOT be happy with that return
