That and in many cases paygrade. For players like Bouw, Wideman, and O. Jokinen, it's not that they were placed in roles that were above their abilities, they simply weren't playing up to their paygrade. I remember just before Iggy got traded, he received some heat from CPers too for disappearing on many nights. As for Phaneuf, well he's a double whammy, his abilities belong to the second pairing, but his paygrade and position is that of a first liner...

I havnt seen anybody using Sven as a whipping. People have gotten to know more about him and are starting to see the entire picture and realize he has alot of work to do to meet his very possible potential. Question marks surround him at this point and do you move him while he still has some value or possibly let him decline? He has equally as much chance of succeeding but its risky. The fact hes become a bit of a risk is why I would want him moved.

Glencross acts like a damn baby on the ice, pouts when things dont go his way, drags his a$$ to the bench at times and has never really been that big of a producer. He deserves the WB label and rightfully so.

Butler... well... its Butler. He has had a few decent shifts in his few SEASONS with the Flames. The icetime and level of play during such has put him in the cross-hairs for years, and IMO, rightfully so.

Just because he's a whipping boy now, doesn't mean he won't be in good standing next year.

Butler could be on both lists whipping boy and over hyped.

Jeff Friesen. Never before have I seen a former top 6 player become so useless, and of course it had to be with us. I was content to blame all of my life's problems at the time on him.

Blair Jones was all over both lists. The lack of patience with him seems to indicate he may have been a horrible teammate.

Who's overhyping him? I've never seen anyone say he's more than a serviceable 3rd pairing defenceman.

Gaudreau reminds me of Giordano in that he consistently beats expectations. It's hard to see how a player who does that could be overhyped.

Every player has a ceiling of development which nobody can know until he reaches it. Expecting a player to become one of the all-time greats based on a limited sample at the start of their pro career is overhyping. That's not to say they won't become great but merely premature to expect/demand it.

The original CP whipping boy: Rico Fata

16 years after being drafted and 14 years after his final game with the Flames and still going strong.

Byron had the well liked come on strong near the end of the season IMO
Westgarth is easy to like after that canuck game however he just finds the perfect time to take a bad penalty and go into the dislike category.

Bork became a whipping boy for me with his complete lack of physicality and a total disinterest in the game of hockey that was going on around him. A little of the same applies to Glencross.
