Why not? Glencross and Hudler are our only NHL left wingers, and Hudler usually plays right. More competition at the prospect level is a good thing.
I have never seen the guy play. But if the Flames scouts like him it's worth a contract spot.

Is it better to have him than Bouma? Gaudreau? Baertschi? Byron? Galiardi? Wolf?

The answer to that would be "possibly".
There is only one way to find out. As a rebuilding team, we can afford to see.

Another overrated Euro player. One good season in KHL doesn't mean crap. Sounds to me that this guy is a quitter. I heard he played for USHL, CHL and left after a few games. I didn't hear the reason why though. I remembered a few years ago Fabian Brunstrom was the hottest Euro free agent but he didn't panned out. Then there was Damian Brunner.

I believe in the Pony Power

And then there's Mats Zuccarelo
These guys can work out...but most won't. Doesn't mean you don't take a crack

What's wrong with Damien Brunner? He's a decent enough player, maybe a tad overpaid now, but far removed from being a complete bust like Brunstrom was.

And at 21, he is younger than a lot of our "prospects".

I think we should try this once a year... last year it was Cervenka, this year it is Wolf.
Pass.

Good chance Brunner is out of the league after this year. Detroit let him leave and he has been bad in New Jersey. Cervenka had the skill to be an NHL player here but wasn't really given a chance by Hartley, even when the team was clearly out of the running.
But this guy doesn't really seem anything like either of them. I'd like to actually hear from some analysts why teams like this guy (what does he bring to the table) as opposed to just the fact that they do. His point totals and pedigree don't really impress

Doubt Sekac is a quiter as it was suggested.
Someone said that he was cut after 8 games in junior and he went to US.

If you are referring to me, I was commenting on the strange or unusual career path. Not calling him a quitter.
My premise is that most players go to the USHL to develop for the NCAA, but with him playing 8 games he was ineligible for NCAA competition.

I am not sure how reliable this guy is (he is an OHL journalist), but he is saying that New Jersey has the inside track on him.

Cervenka showed at least he could score at the NHL level. It's too bad he had such a hole in his 2-way game and floated in the neutral zone for most the season.
|
Cervenka is what? 28? This guys 22 and not done developing yet. I think he'll go to Detroit or Tampa bay. Maybe njd if jagr and Elias can convince him.

Last thing this team needs is a project LW anyway.

The last thing the team needs is any "best player not in the nhl". Its a method that succeeds 9/10 times and it certainly has even worse odds of success on a rebuilding club.
Are we even sure this guy is a LWer?

Nothing official yet but I believe MTL a likely winner in Jiri Sekac UFA sweepstakes. Much sought after 22-year-old winger in KHL last year.
