help please...

I am taking my kids to Little Bow camping this wknd and want to throw a few lines in the water to see if they can catch anything.

I have my WIN number but need to know what if any licenses are required for that area.

Also if I can purchase the license online or if i have to go into a store.

My boys ages are 10 and 14.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I don't think that you need anything special, just a fishing license for you. The kids don't need one until they're 16. I just buy one in the store every year.

Newbie question...

Is the WIN card for 8.00 the fishing license or do i need something else.

It is the only thing that comes up as an available option for me on the relm website.

The WIN card is not a fishing license. The reason you are only seeing the WIN option is because you have to have a valid WIN (wildlife identification number/cash grab) before you can purchase a fishing or hunting licence.

Once you have paid for your WIN number you will see licence purchase options appear.

Any good spots where we can be sure to catch anything?

Also, having gone with him on a little jaunt, how the hell do your fisher guys have the patience with untangling and stuck hooks. Felt like thats all I did, was untangle the goddamn line, ready to huck the rod into the lake.
IIRC, temporary fishing licences in BC are expensive - something to do with keeping Albertans away from the good fishing on the Elk River.

Leeches.

Can't remember using them for river fish or trout necessarily. But great for things like Pike and Walleye. They're too big for trout probably, so you would need to cut them into at least a couple pieces. So if the odd leech sucking bothers you not a great avenue. If it doesn't, my family swears by it.

It's called fishing, not catching

If you were dealing with snags the whole time it was probably a result of a lower quality reel/fishing line? Even the 15 dollar Canadian tire special can work wonders with some decent line on it. Take it to a local fishing store and they will suggest a good one for your fishing adventure and even put it on for you.

I will say that Invermere is generally terrible for fishing purely because of the amount of traffic on the lake for water sports. If you're going to that area I'd recommend a different lake along the Columbia. But if you're willing to drive for a few hours, I always found that the more north you go, the better the fishing is. North AB and SK are fantastic for fishing. Never really done much of north BC though.

Northern AB and SK are only good if you like to catch inferior fish like pike, walleye, and lake trout.

SW AB and SE BC are world-class flyfishing spots.

Even with spin cast I had a lot of good success in SW AB, I'd have fly guys out fishing me 2 to 1 just a few feet away but still.. you can also mess with bobbers to do a make shift fly but I never got into that. Just small spinners/spoons and the odd crank bait.

If you want to land a big 20lb+ pike or a 6lb+ wall eye then ya, head to northern SK. Always remember the bigger the lure the bigger the fish! You won't catch a 15lb pike trolling a small spoon.. unless that pike bites the pike you are already reeling in, which happens.

Fair enough, never done a lot of fly or river fishing myself.
