Those who have done the halfie route, how's the elevation profile? There's a tiny graph on the website but it's hard to tell how it compares to other races like say, the Stampede run around glenmore reservoir which was my nightmare last year.

When I ran it two years ago, I think the change in elevation was next to nothing. I'm not sure if they have modified the route, though.

I'm running a 50km later this summer and to call it a race or a run is a slight misnomer. The elite runners actually run the whole distance. A lot of participants run/walk the distance. That doesn't mean that you can roll in unprepared!

Biggest hill on the course is probably the 4th Street underpass or possibly going up 14th Street over the river - it's a very flat course. The full marathon on the other hand has a pretty significant uphill stretch on the south end of the route.

Calgary full elevation gain last year was 126 meters which is fairly flat. There is more gain in the Police half (135M) vs the Calgary full. Also the Calgary half course cuts out a bunch of the climbs. Expect a fast race!

Running the half but I pulled my calf on Tuesday so I doubt that I'll be able to finish. It sucks because I was feeling like is finish sub 1:40 which would have been a pb

So, I originally signed up for the full, but during the course of my training this year I realized I wasn't ready for it. I got into town this afternoon to downgrade to the half, but apparently it had sold out by the time I got there. My choices are now to pull out completely, or run my first full marathon out of the blue.

Unfortunately I missed the online deadline to change, so it's completely my fault, but nevertheless, I am freaking out!!!! I guess I'll just have to take it slow and walk it out when I need a rest.

Username, I feel your pain. I've also got a bit if a calf pull going on, so it's going to be a tough. On the bright side, regardless of how long it takes me, it's going to be a PB for me!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!!

holy morning jitters...i guess I can't be alone that way so it's all good.

I read somewhere that running is the closest you can get to flying...so I wanna see you all soar like goddamn eagles today!

good luck all...

Awesome day! Weather was great. It stayed dry and sunny and not too hot.
Hope everyone had a great race. I tried to thank as many volunteers as I could but if theres any on here, thanks for helping out!

I was working there as a weekend gig to improve my marketing skills, people are interesting creatures. Some will be happy just to converse about anything, others treat you like garbage for saying hi how's it going.

A lot of people think their personal issues give them a right to treat others like crap while I had people with severe disabilities or serious injuries happy to talk about life. I realized a lot of adults are immature self-centered d-bags, in the whole time talking to thousands of people I met a few hundred small children; not one of them was rude or inappropriate. Children being more well behaved than adults, what a crazy weekend.

Good luck to those running. The Cape Breton Fiddler's Fun Run was today as well. Hopefully the weather out there is better than it was here. It was bright and sunny which was good. But a real feel of 3*C to start the race sucked.

I only did the 5k and never really got in a good groove (I blame the weather and not my lack of training).

Regardless, I don't think of running as a competitive sport. If you can complete the distance that's more than most can do which is impressive on its own!

I gotta ask... what kinda "gig" was this you were working? Were you wearing a branded polo-shirt and attempting to sell something? Striking up conversations with strangers passing by, rudely interrupting them and demanding their attention with a hollow introduction like "Hey guys! Beautiful day, can I talk to you about something?" while clutching a clipboard your hands? Much like those pushy sales people in airpot/mall kiosk?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the last thing people want to do on a beautiful Sunday morning is listen to some sales pitch. You're the one interrupting people's weekend, yet they are the rude ones?

Marketing at an expo with booths

Nope

Asking "hi how'd the race go to people" to those walking through an expo area while holding nothing

I wasn't selling anything so no

Nice job being wrong about every single assumption

Can you not carry this any further please?

Sounds to me like you hit at least a few of my points.

Pro-tip, if people get even the slightest sniff of marketing/sales BS attempting to intrude onto their free time they tend to react swiftly and assertively. If you don't like being ignored/told off you might need to consider another line of work.

On a positive note, one CP'r finished in the top one percent of runners for the marathon.

More of the CP 1 percent I suppose.

What an awesome experience. Loved talking to different runners, and all the volunteers were outstanding!!

That said, right now, I feel like I don't need to do that again!!

Congrats to everyone that ran today.
