Again teams simply don't trade out of 1st overall. It just doesn't happen.

They need a stud defenseman and they already have good center depth. I think they'll take Ekblad, it's just too great of a fit for them

I think Ekblad is the best pick for Florida, and that's what I voted they'll pick, but as time goes on I get less confident that that's who they take.
I'm feel it's like 40%/35%/25% Ekblad/Bennett/Reinhart

agree, i don't think teams, especially teams that are looking to regain fan excitement, would trade up the #1 pick.
However, i don't think this year's forward class is anywhere close to last year's, and not sure there is all that much difference between reinhart/bennet/draisatl/dal colle/etc. If they are set on not picking Ekblad, but say a team like the oilers or flames are, and feel ekblad won't make it to their pick (more likely for the flames) then why not sniff around to see if you can get something of value out of the team?

Florida picks Ekblad just so Edmonton can't. Buffalo I see taking Bennett.

Didn't Florida trade the #1 pick in 2003?

To Pittsburgh: 1st Overall (M.A. Fleury), 73rd Overall
To Panthers: 3rd Overall (Nathan Horton), 55th overall, Mikael Samuelsson

Fleury would be a really...really expensive backup with Mr Luongo already in Florida.

I think Bennett is very good and I think he's just as good as Barkov or Monahan but Reinhart and the German guy have a few more question marks. I feel that it's between Bennett and Ekblad for 1/2 and after that the Oilers pick so who knows?

That was the trade in 2003.

I think Florida takes Bennett or Ehlers.
IMO if Ekblad was they guy the wanted they wouldn't be taking any offers to move the 1st overall pick. The are looking to trade down since they like somebody else in the top 6.

Hopefully the Flames can snag him then. I think Florida is more interested in Dal Colle/Ehlers, and our pick can still get either one of those guys.

However Ekblad could be top of their list and they may be uncomfortable taking a defenseman #1 overall so it could be preferable to pick up an asset that can help now while dropping down and still getting a guy they quite like.

I can't see Florida taking a defenseman, they have a bunch of young talented defenseman(22 and under). Kulikov and Gudbranson are regulars now with a couple more knocking on the door.
Hope I'm wrong but Bennett is theirs.

They also have a lot of young, talented forwards. Barkov, Bjugstad, Huberdeau, Shore, Pirri, Grimaldi... If they keep the pick, they should use it on a defenceman.

Florida's defense is terrible. They are deep at center. All 3 of Ekblad, Reinhart and Bennett are equivalent so if they slant towards drafting for what they need most, Ekblad will be their pick.
That said, they might move down to snap up one of the good wingers (Dal Colle Ehlers) and gain another asset or two.
I'd be surprised if they go any other route than Ekblad if they keep the pick.
If they don't get Ekblad, Edmonton does.

That shall not happen. I'd trade Buffalo right away if Florida doesn't pick Ekblad.

Exactly what I'd do. Throw the Sabres a decent forward prospect or two (Hanowski/Agostino level). The Sabres have so many defensemen so they'd take a forward anyway, and with their being 3 good forwards and a D-man, they'd still get a good forward out of the deal + a solid asset or two if they dealt with us.
I very much doubt that'll be a thing that happens though.

If ekblad is so good, then why would talon ("the best talent evaluator") who needs blueliners want to trade his 1st overall?
