This is one those opportunities for Calgary to utilize their cap space to acquire a negative equity contract/player, bundled with valuable assets.

Just spittin here...

Umberger, Columbus 2014 2nd & 2015 2nd for Calgary's 2014 5th

Thats pricey for 2 2nds but I like the concept. Its very hard to find a balance between the dollars and the value. Is it worth 2 2nds for Columbus to save that money? Hard to say. I also think the league might block that trade like they blocked the Kolzig to Toronto one. Calgary would probably have to add SOB and Turner elson, or something along those lines

Ya, speed is the issue, but he has always been slow and he has always been a more effective player than Jones.

David Jones had some good seasons in Colorado. Last season was bad for him in Calgary with injuries and inconsistency. I am not a big fan of Jones but we are only stuck with his bad contract a season or two I believed compared to RJ's 3 seasons. Also, I think the problem with Jones last season was not using his speed and his big body. The potential in improvement I think is better next season. Besides trading for Umberger means we need to give up something. I just don't want the Flames to get stuck with bad contracts for 3 years.
