And give them a middle name that's a backup they can use if they want. Our son's middle name is Diego after my wife's dad, uncommon enough that he can use it when he's older if he wants to pursue the whole half-latino-gets-all-the-girls option.

Maybe. He was going to name his kid Charles and looked up the meaning. The source he looked at said the name meant "manly", so he decided to just go with that.
I know this is going to sound bad, but I knew a lot of natives where I lived used to give their kids names that they thought were funny.

My personal pet peeve is when parents take a popular name and add their own little twist to the spelling like Paxtyn, Trystan, Aleczander, Jaxxon, etc. I mean if you want to name your boy James then name him James not Jaymes. It's just tacky and means your kid will have to put up with his/her name being misspelled on documents most of their lives.
We were at the park and there were two Jacksons and one of the mothers says "we wanted to name our son Jackson but knew it was becoming popular so we changed the spelling to differentiate him to Jaxxon". I said to her "but you still pronounce it Jackson right?" She says "of course". I guess I just don't understand the mentality here.

16 different sets of parents thought that Talon was a perfectly suitable name for their son.

Haha doing that to ridiculous names is worse. There's 4 versions of Axel on that list...

We went with Quentin - it's a love/hate name but we rarely see others with it.

And made it to E before I lost all faith in humanity. Someone named their child "Eberle".
