Awnsering the door naked works. If you are bored and want to have some fun with them invite them in and slowly dismantle their beliefs system with logic. We had one guy leave the church after coming to my buddies place.

Meh, they don't bug me, they go away when you tell them to.

Now those energy plan salesmen on the other hand can burn in Hades.

As much as I loathe organized religion, I honestly have zero issue with these door knockers. Typically they are on their mission, and say what you will about it, anyone who can commit 2 full years of their life to a cause, based on simple faith, has far more discipline than I would ever have. And most of them truly buy in to what they are selling. They are really hoping to make a positive difference, and I can't knock them for that.

I find I also get off the hook easy, as I always just pull the Jew card out. "Sorry guys, my Jewish mother would disown me if I ever jumped ship." They always just say thanks for your time, shake your hand and leave. Even if you aren't Jewish, it is a quick easy way to get rid of them. They know it is nearly impossible, and wasted breath to try and convert a Jew.

They're the equivalent of a door to door salesman and deserve to be treated the same.
And yet you frequently post your thoughts and opinions on message boards. The only difference between you and them is they predate the internet.

The other difference, is I decide to come on here, I don't decide they can come up to my door and not leave.

Telemarketers are also respectful and don't get offended when I tell them I'm not interested. That doesn't mean I appreciate them disturbing me in my home, though.

I did some canvassing for Greenpeace for a short time when I was younger. I loved knocking on the door of Jehovah's Witnesses. It was like payback.

Of course they never donated. To them there's no point in caring about the environment because Armageddon is coming soon.

I totally see the parallel between posting on an internet message forum and door-to-door religious salesman... wow are you ever reaching!

Alternatively if JW's came to my door and wanted to give me the inside scoop on NHL trade rumours, talk about next years Flames line combinations, or bitch about Calgary drivers then I might be a little more welcoming.

Reverse sell them. I will listen to you if you give evil a chance. Just read up on it, try it out for a week. If their not convinced about Satan after trying it out for a week you will look into being a witness.

In your church it is understood I will quietly listen to whatever is being said. I may not agree with it, but I should sit quietly.

If you are on my property, it goes the same way. I shouldn't have to put up a sign telling people not to ring and it is sad that we accept that people can come onto our property soliciting anything uninvited. The rule should be that a sign welcoming solicitation is REQUIRED before ringing.

There have been periods where my doorbell would ring several times a night, it is really annoying.

Are JW doorknockers local?

Mormon missionaries are as you've described (two year commitment, age 18-24, normally from a different city or even country), but I always assumed JW's were local people just volunteering their time...

Actually grew up a JW, technically still am a member, though I don't really attend often and I haven't done any of the doorknocking in years (I'm what they'd refer to as 'bad association,' though I haven't done enough to get kicked out, so they can't really do anything to me).

Anyway.
1) In general JWs will be local. In certain areas there will be JWs visiting from a heavily covered territory (big cities like NYC, etc, are always well covered by JWs, whereas more rural areas rarely have enough JWs to cover the territories involved, so a group of JWs from a heavily covered area will take like a week and visit a more rural area to help them cover their territory). So normally you're dealing with local JWs who are volunteering their time/resources for it.
2) If you get irritated at JWs coming to your door, at least as far as I've always known, you can inform the JW at your door that you do not want them to return. JWs keep records of those things, and it will likely keep them away from your home permanently (or at least for a number of years).

Isn't there a way to use their faith against them? Something like a sign that'll warn them that your door or doorbell has been covered in the blood of satan and touching it will condemn them to hell?

How is the spread of atheism going anyway?

Christmas morning around 10:00 am or so, circa 1986.

Two JW's came to our house and my Dad was furious, pretty much telling them where "to go" and slamming the door in their faces.
My brother then ran to the balcony and started throwing those miniature candy canes at them. All the while yelling Merry Christmas!

Best Christmas ever!
