Crosby should and will take it. 17 more points than second place. Only 100 point guy. If any other player did it people would be singing their praises, but people are bored if Crosby isn't setting records

I don't see how anyone other than Crosby can be a legit option here.

Seriously. Pretty funny seeing people go out of their way to try and not give it to Crosby.
Crosby will win and it shouldn't be close.

In that respect (the fact he's mentioned in that grouping) I consider Giroux to be over-rated... I suppose I'd say the same thing about Kopitar and Bergeron if they were mentioned in that group, so I was mistaken there, for sure... trying a little too hard to make a point.

Giroux was third in the league in points this season. During his goal drought at the start of the season the Flyers were one of the worst teams in the league. When he finally picked it up, he carried the team to the playoffs.
Malkin was injured a bunch this year, but he was on pace to get nearly 100 points again this year. Malkin is one of the top offensive players in the NHL, reaching 100 points three times and being over a point per game in every season but one..
Tavares was one of the leaders (I think he was 2nd or 3rd?) in the NHL in points when he got hurt. Was a finalist for the Hart trophy last season, and he is only 23 years old. It's debateable that he's in the "upper tier" right now, but he will be soon.

I have to question Freidman's thought process here. It should go to the most valuable player, not who finished top 3 while playing in the harder conference. Getzlaf also has Perry to play with regularly, so I'm not sure I follow that logic. He beat getzlaf by 17 points. That's a lot

This award isn't for the best player, it's most valuable. Crosby had the best season, nobody is arguing that. But I think Giroux was more important to his team's success this season than Crosby was.
I know Crosby is going to win, I just don't think he should. Ted Lindsay award? Absolutely. Hart Trophy? I don't think so.

It hasn't been voted that way for decades.
For all intents and purposes, it is the best player award. Is been that way forever. I get that the language doesn't say that, but that's the reality

I know that's not how it goes. Which is why I'm saying I know it will be Crosby, but it shouldn't be.

I share your opinion and expectation of Tavares...early results seem to point to Mackinnon reaching that level as well... of course its early.
Anyway, I was only factoring in player's performance in this moment... not factoring in age or anything like that... Tavares isn't there yet, in my opinion.

For the win, yes.
But Giroux doesn't get the nomination if it's for best player in the league.
