Disappointing if true simply because of how much of a legend Maher is.

Who is Ian Busby?

Edit: looks like Breakfast Television producer and works for the Calgary Sun as well.

While there were moments of late that I thought he might be getting a little too old for the play by play, I still thoroughly enjoyed listening to his broadcasts and his voice will be sorely missed. All the best Peter!

I'll always remember in 04 after we beat, ironically, Phoenix:

Damn. Hall of Fame career, one of the best voices I've ever heard call the game. Thanks for all the amazing calls Peter.

Hope the Flames honour him next season and fans get to give him a proper salute.

That's heartbreaking news. Talents like him just aren't sprouting in this biz anymore. He'll be missed.

This is very tough news. Such a credit to the team.

Many of my favorite Flames memories have him describing the scene.

The one thing I can say that I am glad about is that I cancelled my sports package for most of the season and streamed the radio broadcasts instead. I'll appreciate that memory even more now.

Wish him the absolute best and a very happy retirement.

Damn. He's actually synonymous with the franchise by this point. Had to happen sooner or later but feel bad for whomever has to replace him.

Congrats to Pete on an amazing career. Simply the best, and honoured as such in the HOF, along with being the voice of Team Canada in 2010. Your voice will be missed during game times, and on my morning commute. I loved Maher in the Mornings during hockey season.

Best of luck Peter, well done sir.

Does that mean Rob Kerr is doing radio games now? I hope not.
