Um not sure if serious? Do you understand what terrorism is? It's not a middle eastern person on a plane. This is terrorism. He used a backpack while shouting "Boston Strong" and left it at the finish line. This is the exact definition of terrorism. He didn't accidentally drop his backpack while buying food from a hot dog stand.

And it wasn't empty, it had a rice cooker in it.

Pretty much, if there's any synonym to yelling FIRE in a crowded theatre, this is it.

At the very least mischief related charges, at the worst he incited panic, left a rice cooker in there and basically simulated a terrorist attack.

Yeah they'll be charging him with a ton.

Guy is a student at a local art college and claims it was a performance. Family says he has been off his meds for 3 to 4 months.

Quote:
According to a police report filed in court, Edson told arresting officers that the rice cooker he was carrying inside the backpack was not an explosive device. He also explained his behavior, which included shouting out loud as he walked down the street.

“I knew what I was doing, it was being conceived in my head. It’s symbolism,’’ Edson allegedly told police after receiving his Miranda rights. “The performance got the best of me.’’

the guy's lucky no cops were there when he initially dropped it. Performance complete when they shot the poor dummy.

Yup, are we slowly coming to realize that everyone who commits a crazy crime is mentally ill and deserves our love? Or at least ill at that moment? Kill five and feel sorry but plant a fake bomb and feel disgust?

I think we should love people on drugs and drunk that commit crimes too.

Probably. I've never met anyone with a life long addiction problem that doesn't have some kind of awful situation that led to it. I get pissed about the crimes, but man I feel bad for those people.

I laugh at the amount of comments about people speculating, 'man he must have been on some hallucinogins or something' for unexplained crimes. That's just not how those things work. It's a hollywood, and US war on drugs, myth for the most part.

You don't drop acid and get all stabby.

A case can probably be made for cocaine leading to violence as it does make people aggressive, but even then, it doesn't happen as often or the way people think.

Alcohol can definitely fuel things though. Lots of evidence of that.

Ya! Lets tar and feather all the people with mental illnesses and disabilities! Better yet, lets just stone them!

Maybe I'm misinformed, but I had heard it as an art student who said it was for a 'performance'. If it is a mental disorder, then my apologies and he should get the help he needs. If it was a stunt, then this guy deserves to be tarred and feathered.

When the story first broke there was no reason to think he was mentally ill, and based on the crime, a lot of reason to think he was just some punk kid being a complete asshat.

There wasn't that much outrage after that was posted.

As Daradon alluded to, yes, sounds like he has some serious mental issues that flared up recently when he went off his meds after moving out on his own.
