IIRC, it would have been the biggest playoff upset in NHL history, a team that finished 43 points ahead of another. I wonder if t any team that finished that far behind another even took them to 7 games.
It wasn't. The Kings defeated the Oilers in the 1982 playoffs in a best of 5 series 3-2. The Oilers had 111 points, the Kings 63, for a 48 point difference. In the same year, the Penguins were 43 points back of the Islanders but lost the best of 5 series 3-2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981%E2%80%9382_NHL_season

The penultimate "Oilers are no good" moment. Up 5-0, going into the 3rd period of that final game.
The Miracle on Manchseter ensued...Kings scoring 5, including (watch Gretzky not clear it will 11 seconds to go), and then win it in OT, 6-5 final.
Charlie Simmer, Steve Bozek, Kevin Lowe, and some great early 80's fashions also make an apperance.
Back to the Flames/Canucks 1989...Bob Cole, at his finest in this highlight package.
Perfect excitement and drama added by his voice...his calls of Vernon's saves, (Skriko was the toughest) and Mullen's miss are forever etched. Worth the 6:35 watch.

When Iggy tripped backwards, and the Canucks came in and tied it with seconds left, I remember specifically saying to my wife "ugh, I feel so bad for Iggy on that play." It was a horrendous thing to watch. One of the few misplays that stuck out in my mind over that whole run.
Thankfully Gelinas was captain clutch and propelled the team on to Detroit.
The guy just came and chopped the stick out of Iggy's hand and then he tripped on it, should have been a call but the ref was busy picking up a sweater off the ice.
or are we talking about Iggy missing the open net instead of just pinning the puck...thought they were cursed until the OT goal
