I hope whomever picks Ritchie gets a real stud. I think he's a big risk but damn.. imagine if he takes his training/conditioning to the NHL level? He'd be an absolute beast.

Right now, it's nearly as likely that we don't draft 4th as we do draft fourth. Perhaps wait until after the lottery?

Okay, the most likely scenario is pick #4 (about a 60% chance). It's twice as likely as them getting the #5 pick and 6 times more likely than winning the lottery. Even if they get the #5 pick instead, odds are that some of these guys if not all will be available at that spot. So how about we speculate on the basis that the most likely outcome comes to pass?

I'm all for Draisaitl, I mean he had absolutely nobody around him in junior and put up huge points, he went to worlds and wasn't he captain at age 18? A lot to put on a kid that age, also had nobody around him. Adjusting to life in NA. Take that all in and you maybe can see why he seemed disinterested at times. He is young and for sure top 6 calibre in the NHL.

Also how many times has Burke seen him play? Maybe a couple times in Calgary if he wasn't jetsetting across NA for one thing or another this year?

Right, so an 89.3% chance of 4th or 5th. In which case the same general menu of options probably applies, with one guy potentially not being available.

Dal Colle or Ritchie for me.

I tend to think there's a decent chance someone takes Draisaitl ahead of us and one of the Sams falls in our laps.

the draft might not be really deep this year but I think the top 5 is really good and pretty even...we might draft the same guy at #1 that we potentially get at #4 just depends how it shakes down

Surprised nobody wants Nylander or Kapanen here so far because I think if anyone's jumping up into the top 3 it's one of those guys. And if a guy falls I think it will be Ekblad, much in the same vein as Seth Jones last year. Although you'd think Edmonton would take him.

So far,

8 votes for Dal Colle
3 votes for Draisaitl
1 vote for Ritchie

Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Ritchie in that order.

One of Nylander and Kapanen won't go in the top 10 and neither will go top 5. I would be surprised if either get a vote in this poll.

Brian Burke on the 960 said that if there was any team that deserves to win the lottery, it's the Calgary Flames.

In a way you expect him to say that, but if I was a fan of any other team, I would probably be saying the same thing.

I agree with those saying this needs to wait a day. The Flames could be drafting 1st, 4th, or 5th. There is also a miracle scenario where the Oilers lose their draft pick after evidence emerges they purposefully tanked from 2009-12 and the Flames draft 3rd.

Dal Colle shouldn't be slept on. He has the makings to be an elite winger in this league, and could easily be the best goal scorer out of this draft. If the two Sams and Ekblad are gone I hope he's our guy.
