Makes sense, but I don't think there's anyone on the roster that could replace him. Kessel isn't captain material, and I am not sure Bozak is either. So I guess it would be JVR, but it could get ugly if they strip Phaneuf of the captaincy for someone in his early 20's.

Friedman mentioned the Dave Nonis to Calgary rumors, but he pretty much put them down, saying they are essentially baseless. Good.

The thing that bothers me about this Edmonton game tonight is it's going to be all happy feely from the crowd for Smyth's last night. I would have loved them to get booed into the offseason while skating off on a layer of jerseys.

However, a win on home ice in the last game of the season, on Ryan Smyth night ... maybe Katz will think the status quo is fine.

Shinkaruk hasnt played in months. Hopefully the Ice eliminate the Tigers tonight. Ill be at a family function in Med Hat next weekend and there will be far less chirping if the Tigers are gone by then.
