Nope.
He's actually been a lot better this year than last IMO. He was used far too much as a top line guy last season and didn't look good. This year he has been used less and in a 3rd or 4th line role and has done well. I was hoping he'd come back for one more season.

Are we going to plan a farewell tea party for the Sedins when they retire too or something now?

Doubtful. He's not brightest bulb in the box.
Now I think about it he may just get a head office job with the Oilers.

I thought he was a pretty good player before he got traded to NYI. However he was a part of that generation of Oilers with stupid names that I always hated. Smyth, Staios, Isbister, Pisani, Horcoff, Hemsky, Dvorak, Chimera, etc. "Yuck. Always hated how the Kevin Quinn said their names. Made me cringe.
Best of luck to him though. I'll always respect for his time as Captain Canada.

Because the Oilers are no good so he was always selected for Team Canada at the World Championships.

Always was the captain of the world championships, because oilers never made the playoffs.

stoolborycro time.
When I was 12 (almost 13) a just turned 11 year old Ryan Smyth was in my class at the Foothills hockey school. I had just finished a massive growth spurt, and was at that time the biggest kid, and 1 month ahead of the cutoff for the next group up. So anyway, I was way ahead of the other kids, just because I was really big and a couple years older. Captain Canada clung to me for those two weeks, thinking I was some mega star because I was scoring 5 or six goals every scrimmage. When in reality I was just in a group too young for my size and skill. But even back then, there were rumblings about how good this little kid from Banff was.

Ryan Smyth was the only Oiler I kind of liked I don't understand the hate for him. You have to respect the style he played and his performance at World Championships. It wasn't his fault the Oilers drafted him and he didn't play his entire career there. Also, some of his best years as an Oiler were when the Flames sucked so it's not like he really scored a lot of big goals against us.

For the Kings it was. Heck they still have Colin "two cups" Fraser for some reason.

Nobody could score goals off the ass/leg/torso/face quite like him
Less oiler stank than others and can't fault him for being a passionate team orientated guy who actually gave a f###

Is he the last guy in the NHL still using a wooden stick? If he is, he'd fit perfectly in the executive suite with the last guy to play in the NHL without a helmet.
