I don't think it was just one moment. It was a realization that the team was going to give it a good effort on an ongoing basis. The results of that were some nice wins, good comebacks etc.
But them showing way more than expected is the highlight of the year easily!
I was on a cruise ship in Hawaii when the Torts mind blow happened, so I can't say that, although it sounded outstanding even if I couldn't see it.
Has to be the Edmonton thrashing with Stajan's goal. Loved watching that one.
But I also liked Bouma the shot blocking machine.
I enjoyed a lot of the games this year because they tried.
Iggy's return (I can't believe nobody has said this yet)
4-3 comeback win over the Islanders, plus they were wearing the retros and I got a picture with the cup so great stuff all round
And of course thrashing the Oilers in their own barn. I was lucky enough to be at the game (3 hour drive each way was worth it) and as each goal came one after another more and more Oiler fans gave me angry glances, and one even looked like he was going to throw his beer on me when it came to 8-1. Plus seeing Scrivens throw the jersey back gave me many good laughs.
Also the line brawl in Vancouver and Hartley trolling Torts, and being the beginning of the end for the Canucks playoff hopes, priceless.
One of the things that will always stand out for me is every time Grats fought, he'd pat the other dude on the head.
I will NEVER forget Kerr being dressed up in the smoking jacket reading Poe.. I think I broke a rib from laughing so hard.
I gotta say, I know this just happened but seeing Butler waste the Jersey guy in front of the net was awesome.
I bawled like an orphan when Iggy came back.
I bawled like an orphan when Stajan scored 'that' goal.
Was it the goalie from LA that flipped his sh*t because Calgary scored three goals on him in 5 minutes and his family was there? I can't remember the team, but that was awesome.
Sean Monahan getting his 20th was awesome.
I thought Brodie getting his 30th point was pretty awesome. <3
Watching all of the other broadcasts on NHL Centre Ice and have them talk about how hard working and respectable the Flames were was pretty cool
This was a great year in the rebuild process

Pretty solid year for a rebuilding club. Definitely a lot more good memories that I'll remember in 10 years time than with last season, thats for sure.

Honourable mention...can't even remember the game, but I believe the Flames tied the game with less than 2 minutes (or 1) to go and then proceeded to score the go-ahead goal in regulation to win. First time in Flames history. That was pretty cool.

That would've been the Flames vs Islanders game, where we wore the retros due to Joe Nieuwendyk night.

The whole year ....seemed to get better as it progressed.
The team fought hard every game and set a franchise record for 1 goal games competed in.
They seemed to bond after the TORTS fiasco.
If this team competes this well next year from beginning to finish we may be surprised at how quickly the REBUILD became something a little less rectally discomforting than originally anticipated.
Lets see how close the HEAT come to winning the Calder Cup.....fingers crossed.
I am very excited for next year and what these guys will be out to prove as IMO there's nothing to be ashamed of.
1. 8-1 (I include 'The Goal' in this)
2. Iginla return
3. Baertschi to Monahan
Definitely my absolute favourite Flames season in years. Their standings are negated by their effort and potential. Plus, their ability to almost never give away an easy game will be highlighted if they can set a record tonight for most 1 goal games in a season.
On the ice, honorable mention to Monahan potting 20+. Iginla's return.
First overall, the 8-1 victory over the Oilers. Everything about that record breaking game was magical...booting the Oilers out officially, largest Flames victory ever over the Oilers, 3 jerseys on the ice, the Hall and Eakins tantrum, the Stajan goal all for a national audience.
Off the ice, clearly December 12, 2013. Almost 3 years of hot air and incompetence, finally away from this team.
