I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Simply amazing.

I can't fathom the discipline it takes to do what you've done.

I think even for me to do a few simple pushups and crunches I often let it slide for weeks at a time. Yet you had the dedication to keep up consistently.

Congratulations! I'm very proud.

Thanks everyone! It was hard, no doubt, I found myself doubting what I was doing at times, but had such a great support team of a personal trainer, a whole group of people helping me with my diet and any other issues like injuries.

Its a unique situation, I know in the past I gave up and would fall down, that simply wasn't an option being on a TV show like this, knowing you HAD to show up for finale and walk on stage no matter how you did, in fact one of the contestants in this series the guy with the huge belly only lost in the end 11kg, which shocked everyone.

But this is not easy, this time around I dealt with the psychological side of my relationship with food and learned so much about myself in the last 6 months see myself push through lots of hurdles and obstacles. Found a lifestyle of eating I can love and still be healthy, now I just have to cut about 15kg more of fat and I'll be fully focused on body building.

That's quite an accomplishment, Thor! I envy what you have done as I myself am in a struggle to lose weight. Good job!

You deserve some thanks as well. Your openess about this entire experience was inspirational to me. I decided to do something about myself as well.

I don't know exactly what I weighed when I started, but I have lost at least 25 pounds since the first of the year, completely eliminated pop/soda (which I believed at the time I was addicted to) and have moved to a healthier diet. I've accomplished this with very little additional exercise incorporated into my days. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when I actually start to physically push my body again on a daily basis.

In any case, thanks for being a part of my motivation.
I deeply appreciate that and I LOVE hearing things like this. What has surprised me probably most after getting on that show and just being open with everyone about it, was that I have been getting messages from old friends and people whom I have not seen in a long time that have told me they have been struggling and that I helped push them to start.

I think the biggest thing you can do is remove as much sugar including fruit (1 serving a day is fine) and for me by far eating as little grains in my diet except for my carb loading day.

Just make simple changes, I found the biggest reason for my problem with food was the amount of sugar in my diet mixed in with all those carbs, once I took both of them down I felt like a new person, headaches gone, bloodpressure back to normal, sleep better, more energy during the day.

If your interested in the plan I'm following its carb nite, by Kiefer, this is the first "diet" book I've ever actually been impressed by, this man's podcasts are just so great because he's a Astro physicist and his approach all his life has been always, what does the research say, and if it doesn't have the evidence to back it, its not worth a cent.

Science based diet, its almost unheard of in the world of fad dieting.

First, as someone who has lost more weight than Thor, in the words of Shania Twain, "That don't impress me much". What DOES impress me is how he did it so publicly. I'm willing to stand up as an example AFTER I lost the weight. Thor was willing to stand up, be vulnerable, put himself out there and be an inspiration from the get go. It's one thing to brag after you accomplish a difficult goal. It's quite another to stand up and publicly say you are going to accomplish that goal and show the growing (or in this case, shrinking) progress towards that goal. If I had failed, I would have failed in obscurity. But I don't think Thor had much fear of failure... right from the outset he seemed full of confidence, or at least had very strong commitment and conviction that he was going to put his all into it.

FYI - I lied. As someone who has been there, done that.... I know how tough it was and it always does impress me. Every time. I'm just MORE impressed with how he did it and what his plans for the future are.

Oh, and as much as I absolutely *dread* discussing nutrition, (EVERY fad diet CLAIMS to be science based and it's difficult to distinguish the wheat from the chaff) I'll wade in a bit on what Thor said above.

I have treated myself to refined sugar once in the last year. I had two mini-cheesecakes two weeks ago. That's it, that's all. I believe that is something pretty much everyone can agree on - sugar is a MAJOR reason for the obesity problem.

Personally, I am very low starchy-carbs - very few breads, cereals, etc. No muffins, no bagels, no potatoes (including french fries). But I don't suggest that to anyone. What I do to maintain might not work for others. Someone passed on an article to me today that shows that different people with different hormone levels benefit from different types of diets. So what works for one person might not work for another. And by the same token, if someone tries diet X and it doesn't work, maybe diet Y will. And by diet, I do NOT mean a short term change in what you are eating, I mean the complete food plan overhaul you plan to make for the rest of your life. There really should be two separate words like there is for "weather" vs "climate".

The one limiting factor that the scientists found was that it was very hard to get conclusive, statistically significant data on their study because extremely few of their test subjects were able to lose a significant amount of weight.

Wow, that's awesome, Thor!

I have struggled so often with food. I find the getting started part the hardest. I do well enough for a week, then I give myself a reward, which is food based, which turns into a couple, which makes me fall off the wagon, as it were.

Thats why carb nite works for me, gives you a carb loading night which includes good stuff you crave and guilt free.

One great thing about the internet has been networking with others that share a small common link. People who are sexually attracted to fish and can find others who are sexually attracted to fish. (/Simpsons reference)

I think one reason the "lost significant weight (say 100lbs) and kept it off" community is so small is because it's a lonely road. It's hard to find others that have been there and done that to help figure out what works and what doesn't. I think I was lucky to be living in the Internet Age where I could reach out and find others that have had advice. I've fallen down a few times since hitting goal weight, but I've been able to right myself each time. With the help and advice of others who have been down this road. Something that wouldn't have been possible as little as 20 years ago.

I'll be sure to get Thor hooked up. Our "club" is all about growing membership - by staying in the club ourselves AND helping others join. But one great thing about being part of Biggest Loser, is that his fellow contestants already have that bond and can keep in touch.
