Something that was absent from the news yesterday on this. They talked about immunization, what to do if you were immunized before a certain date, that you need two shots, etc. What if you had the measles as a child? Does that give you immunity, or should I get immunized again?
(I got measles when I was 15; in spite of being immunized when I was 14 months old.)

If you had the disease you should be fine.
When getting my greencard in the States I had no vaccination records (lost in a flood when I was a kid). I got needle after needle after needle that week....

If you had the disease, you now have a natural immunity to it. Means you have memory cells that last your life that will recognize the antigens and activate the immune response if you are exposed to measles again.
Vaccination in itself is essentially exposing the individual to the disease, but in a way that the individual won't get sick by it, only will create an immune response and create those memory cells that you would get if you actually got the disease.

You and the poster who thanked you're attempted grammar police post really are too of a kind.

I can understand your point when there's a misspelling of a word like there, their and they're.
But in this case, having 'then' instead of 'than' changes the entire context of the sentence

You're ok with using there, their or they're in the place of eachother even though they can change the context of the sentences they are used in? But yet you still take time to point out that using 'then' in the place of 'than' can change the context of a sentence?
Serious question, were you left scratching your head over my inititial post? Did it confuse you why someone would, in green text, write that they would rather catch both autism and measles? It never crossed your mind that in a thread about the outbreak of a disease which we have a vaccine for, it could potentially be a simple typo in a joke aimed at people who avoid vaccines due to fear of developing autism?
You guys have been really quick to point out a typo, but why has no one bothered to mention that you can't 'catch' autism in your nitpicking?

Absolutely. I had to read your post twice because I was confused why you would joke about wanting to have autism right after getting measles
What you failed to understand is that your post, on its own, can stand alone as an error free sentence when you use "then"
Either way, whether it's "then" or "than", it's still a poorly executed joke. Especially when you have more people laughing at you than with you
Boooooo x2

Because your funny mistake overshadowed your not very funny attempt at a joke, complete with the even more unfunny use of green text?

I think I've acknowledged it as a typo, look at my previous, no really look, it's there.
Please forgive my mistake, it's been a rough week. I've been fighting some sort of mystery illness in which I have had a high fever and a bumpy red rash all over, it seems to have affected a lot of my motor skills and now it appears to be robbing me of my grammar skills. I should have just gotten my vaccines and abandoned the silly dream of catching measles then autism.

We're good, can you pm me your contact info so I can pass it on to a buddy of mine who's an amateur stand up comedian? Maybe you could go see him do a set. Most people think he's funny, but I'm sure hearing a review from a respected comedy critic/expert such as yourself would really help his career.
On topic: measles!

This outbreak has me a little scared and I wish I could find a way to share this with the Anti-vaxxers on a grand scale.
My wife is pregnant and, during her regular blood tests early in the pregnancy, it was discovered that she is not resistant to Rubella (german measles). She was vaccinated as a child of course, but it didn't take (Not sure how that works medically, but that's the best way to describe it).
She can't get vaccinated while pregnant.
So now she has to avoid small children that haven't been vaccinated and any children that show signs of the flu. Catching it now would be incredibly harmful if not fatal to our unborn child.
It's not just their own children's lives they are gambling with... it's also my unborn child
