That all depends on how good the 2015 draft class actually is. If it's true that next years draft class is better than the 2013 class, then they might be better served in waiting a year if they don't think they will improve that much.
For instance say the 10th overall selection next year is every bit as good as the player taken 5th this year, then why not wait since the Islanders are probably going to be a bottom ten team. Then add in the fact that McDavid (and possibly Eichel) could be a generational talent, then there is good reason why they might think a top ten pick in 2015 is better than the 5th pick this year.
