Brought one up from the States. Voice search works quite well actually, but is moot if you use a universal remote.
The bigger problem I have with this is the geo locks on things. I'm using unblockus which gets around things but the way the amazon eco system is geo centric really messes with things. Here's what I'm finding.
With a US DNS server
- Amazon Prime exclusive material works
- Netflix USA works, but not Canada.
- Hulu appear to work
- Plex should work
Without US DNS
- Prime doesn't work
- Netflix app doesn't work period.
- Plex works.
- Hulu doesn't work.
Unfortunately the wife wants to watch some shows that are on Netflix Canada but not USA (Good Wife) so door #1 doesn't work for the wife.
To make matters worse, If you have previously installed the Kindle app and tied your account to amazon.ca, you won't have access to US Amazon apps and videos, effectively rendering this useless. I had to create a new account on amazon.com to "manage" my Fire TV which then much per the above works. Unfortunately, my Prime Membership is on my amazon.ca account which means I'd have to pay twice for Prime. Not happening.
Since Plex / Netflix are my primary concern, I kind of wish I had gone with a Roku 3, although the Fire TV has a lot of promise. Still might.
