Sun Readers did not enjoy the joke, and returned immediately to hateful rants.
This is awesome. So glad Nenshi pushed all the Sun Readers' buttons; must've felt extremely satisfying, even as a joke.

The sharia law reference... awesome.

My wife called me to warn about the traffic jam on Macleod Trail due to the three moose being trapped in an creating havoc with the police and wildlife vehicles blocking the area. I felt compelled to call her mother and tell her about a new small business tax refund announced in today's Herald that she must apply for before the end of the week in order to get qualified. I even gave her the phone number to call and make an appointment: 403-268-5622...

My wife told our kids that because of all the snow/cold days school was being extended 3 weeks into July.

The one I will always remember was when my dad put a couple of bricks in my backpack before I went to school. Don't remember what grade it was, but it was elementary school for sure as I used to walk about 10 minutes to get to school. Worst part was having to take them back home after I discovered them at school.

Come to think about it - does that even qualify under April Fools? I guess I was fooled by not checking why my bag was so heavy...but still.

My dad was once going on a business trip, red eye flight. He woke me up at about midnight and I showered and got ready for school (grade 11ish). He offered me a ride and it wasn't until I was in his car that I realized something was amiss.

Cape Breton Eagles announced today they were going to retire Kovalchuk's number even though he never reported to them after they selected him in the CHL import draft:

Quote:
The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles announced today that they will retire Ilya Kovalchuk's jersey during the 2014-15 season. Kovalchuk was drafted by the Screaming Eagles 10th overall in the 2000 CHL Import Draft. Although he never played for the Screaming Eagles, his name stands out among hockey’s greatest and the Screaming Eagles organization is pleased to celebrate his career by retiring his #71 jersey – the number that he probably would have worn if he had played for the Screaming Eagles.

edit:

Flames should have made a Tim Erixon forever a flame announcment.

A few years ago a couple of guys I work with put a holiday trailer on Kijiji for $8000 dollars, included photo's and the works, it looked like a real add. Then they put my cell number as the contact with a must sell. I had about 40 phone calls on my work cell by 10 in the morning. Once I figured out who did it I changed my voice mail to say that if you are calling about the trailer please call me at this # (inserted one of the guys cell #'s who made the add). Once he started getting calls he finally pulled the add.

It was a good joke. Although some people calling about the add were not happy when I told them it was a joke. I thought my phone was going to start on fire at one point it was ringing so much. HAHA

It was really well-written. Nenshi is everything I don't expect from a politician, I love it.

Thinkgeek.com always has good ones. Their April Fools Unicorn SPAM was so popular they actually made it.

Ilya Kovalchuk's number was retired by his CHL team that he never reported to:

My coworker got his old office (Big 4 accounting firm) by telling them that he was quitting... his old performance manager called very concerned and wondering what went wrong.

Sounds lame but I never thought it would actually work when I suggested it.
