Robyn Regehr is the only one I can think of that even comes close but even he didn't miss the entire season.

Sieloff has not played a game this year. He at the very least has to start next year in the AHL. There is no dman other than Ekblad that could jump straight into the nhl.

Or if Wideman isn't moved you still have 7. Not sure if any other D are knocking on the door. Unless the Flames land Ekblad

Why would you break up the Wotherspoon Smid pairing? A very serviceable second pairing out there.

That puts Russel Wideman as the bottom pairing.

Butler signs with someone else in the offseason.

Was mainly listing names not suggesting specific pairs

It's a pretty small sample size to judge Wotherspoon or Sieloff (wtf) as nhl ready and suggest moving out veterans to make room.

Sure Wotherspoon has looked very good but what happens when one or two Dmen go down and he ends up having to play against Getzlaf or Kopitar every night? I would suggest keeping the Dmen in the minors and taking the slow cooker approach, while keeping the D core as is in order to stay competitive next year over an 82 game season

Nobody judged Sieloff as being NHL ready. I just said he would have been here already if he hadn't lost a full year due to injury.

I'd rather keep both Butler and Wotherspoon and move Wideman when the opportunity arises.

Wideman did start the year pretty well until he got injured and didn't come back as strong, I don't know if it's worth shipping him off just yet. I like Wotherspoon a lot but am not sure if he's ready for 82 next year, maybe the year after.

One of Butler/Wideman should go. Make space for Patty Sieloff!

As good as Butler's been lately, he just doesn't bring any offense. Everyone else has pretty much passed him in that regard.

I have always been one of the biggest supporters of Wotherspoon. And his stint so far has surpassed everyone's expectations. But I think people are jumping the gun here.

He just turned 21 - they shouldn't rush him. You should never rush defensemen.

Another year in Abby as 'the man' getting all the big assignments, while also getting injury call-up duty.

Then, he'll be ready.

My guess is that Wotherspoon starts next season in Abbotsford and becomes the first call-up in case of injury. The Flames are probably going to have to sign a couple of UFAs to get to the lower cap. One most likely a defenseman. If they trade Wideman somehow (which I doubt) it would probably mean a big contract coming back as well, possibly a defenseman. This would bump Wotherspoon to the #7 spot. I doubt they keep him up if he's the #7 guy.

Can we sign Grats to a 1 year 10 million contract just to avoid the floor. That way we can mover Wideman without issue.

I think Wotherspoon is ready to play bottom-pairing minutes in a sheltered role. He has been undeniably good.

I wrote this in the PGT, but he reminds me somewhat of Brodie. Obviously not as poised and confident as Brodie is now, but the way he sees the game and is able to make plays at both ends of the ice - it makes me remember Brodie's first stretch in the NHL.

Was going to say the same thing. I don't hate Wideman at all, but one reason for keeping him next season may just be the cap floor. Be nice to have a right handed shot on the blueline as well.
