Typical Calgary pedestrian not paying attention.

Although I've been in that scenario. I was going to jaywalk in between two parked cars, step out, and a delivery van zooms by probably 10" from my face. It was actually kind of traumatizing....took a few days to get over it fully.

first of all, some of you need to get off the high horse and see a joke for what it is.

Second, 37% tax increase is ridiculous. I hope the appeal is successful and believe it will be.

Mayor Nenshi, rube needs a new pair as well - collateral skidmarking. He just clenched really hard.

I'm so kidding. Hopefully you take it as the joke it was meant to be.

You realize that even if Nenshi got hit by fotze, or died tomorrow from a massive heart attack, that 37% increase would remain right? Him dying doesn't all of a sudden vacate what is owed...

Beyond that, as mentioned, Nenshi isn't out there performing assessments himself. Odds are your mom just lived in an area that was badly underassessed in the past. If she doesn't like it she can always move to an area with lower property tax rates (i.e. the ghetto).

Sweet a thread dedicated to people whose assessment went up 37%. If you have a property like me, then you are probably along the West LRT. Turns out major construction hurts assessment value and transport upgrades help assessment value. I prefer the extra 37% that my property may (I know sell price and assessment are not the same) be worth over the extra $50 a month. Tax is not a fixed cost, plan for that to increase next year too.

Back on point, OP glad you did not kill anyone today. Now see how long you can go without killing someone and then try to double that.

Wasn't crossing, just climbing into the passenger side. I think a lot of people don't anticipate that there is an actual travel lane squeezed against the parked cars. Nevertheless, we should always look! 17th is bad for this as there really only is about 3/4 of a travel lane against the parked cars westbound. #1 place for collisions in Calgary and not very safe for those getting in their vehicle (guy killed last year in this circumstance in a hit and run) in front of Cibo).

How's she going to afford the fruit basket and the courier charges if all of her money went to property taxes?

Yeah, the right lane is definitely pretty tight. I've had a couple of close calls as a driver on 17th, although both of them were people swinging their doors wide open as they were getting out. Having duallys park in those spots definitely doesn't help either.

Driving in and around the Beltline, I definitely make it a point to be more mindful of pedestrians. I'm constantly amazed at how many people don't look both ways (or any ways) before they cross the street. Hoodies up, headphones in, just walking forward.

From a drivers perspective, 11th/12th is a much better way to cut across the Beltline. 17th is a giant obstacle course.

Out of curiosity what would happen if Fotze had succeeded in his assassination attempt? Is there a bi-election for new mayor only? Is a interim mayor made from one of the alderman?

Now that I think about it, I know that Toronto has a deputy mayor from the recent Ford craziness. Is that standard in all Canadian cities? Do we have one? I am a little embarrassed to admit I don't know.

There would be a by-election for mayor. The councillor who is deputy mayor would be interim mayor. Any councillors who chose to run would have to resign their positions. By-elections would also fill those seats.

This wouldn't have happened if there wasn't so many bike lanes. More room for cars.

When saw troutman and a long post with short lines, I assumed it was song lyrics. Now that I think about, I feel like this could make an excellent song, although I'm not sure if it should be angry heavy metal, or blues or what.
