I remember sneaking out to go to Electric Avenue the night the Flames won the Cup. I was 16 and it was awesome. It was a similar vibe to 2004 on 17th Ave after we beat the Canucks.

Kent Nilsson was my favourite. I marveled at all the skill he had and the things he could do with the puck. At the same time he was quite indifferent and only played when he wanted to. Still holds the Flame record for points in a season with 131.
The high boards and the closeness of the fans made the old Corral and intimidating place to play for visiting teams.

26. Remember posting on Sportsnet.ca message boards in the early 2000s, but they got shut down for a couple years. Then went to cf.com after that... think the background was black, and awful on the eyes. Then the cup run happened and people posted red mile "shirts off for Kiprusoff!" pics... and that board got shut down. My parents even asked me about these pictures way over here in saskatchewan and if I'd seen them. Then I came here and it's been 10 years of awful.

I remember getting thrown out of a bar on Electric Avenue when the Flames won the cup because I was buying beers and heading out to the Balcony of the bar and handing them out to random people on the street.
Then going around back and sneaking in through the bars kitchen by lying that i was the sound guy.
and then getting thrown out again.

When they cleaned the ice during intermissions back then did the horses pulling the Zamboni get cold?

Zamboni's??? Nah! They used shovels
Even worse, they played "Like a Rhinestone Cowboy" when the Cowboys came onto the ice. My dad thought that was a horrible song to play.

I'm almost a quarter century old but have lived in two millennium's. Was born just shortly after midnight after Calgary won in overtime against Vancouver in 89 to move on to the second round.

I never really got in to following hockey until the 03-04 season, and became hooked during the playoff run to the cup.
I'm 21.

My first flames memories are all from the 03-04 season (not a bad time to start cheering for the flames huh?). The first game I really remember going to with my dad was one of the first few games after Kiprusoff was acquired, when he still was wearing a white mask. I distinctly remember trying to figure out how to pronounce his name, and having no idea who he was!
By the end of the playoffs I also vividly remember that my room was covered in the Calgary Herald Flames posters (anyone else remember those?), where I had taped them all to my walls. I even remember frantically asking neighbours and relatives for their herald if I missed one of the players. And at the time I could name every player on the team (which I thought was a pretty cool accomplishment when I was 8 years old).
The games I remember most are the triple OT loss to the canucks because my parents let me stay up to watch the game, game one against the sharks where Montador scored to win, and the game 6 win against the sharks (where my dad taped the end of the game on VHS so when I woke up the morning after the game I was able to find out if they flames had won).
10 years later, I fully attribute Kiprusoff to be the reason I began to play goal myself. While now I only play rec hockey, he still inspired me to take up the position. His poise, calmness and work ethic just hit me like a wall, I wanted to be just like him.
Its also really cool seeing the ages of posters on here! I feel like I could learn so much from everyone, whether it be younger or older. I really enjoy seeing the dynamics of someone else who went through the '86 run, the '89 cup, the young guns era, and '04! It must feel like some sort of long story or journey. I honestly can't wait to be a part of the next big time in Flames history!

I'm 23,
First flames game in 1999 when I was 8 (immigrated from Latvia when I was 6), vs Detroit (we beat them 3-1) instant Flames fan, favourite player back then was Val Bure! Then it was IGGY! 15 years now for me!
I still remember the 9-0 whooping to San Jose at home, that was a painful one to watch, can't remember when that was? 2000? 2001?

20. My grade 5 teacher was a huge Flames fan (in BC) and I started cheering for them on the cup run. We used to bet chocolate bars on hockey games and all the boys HATED giving the girl all of the candy after every game.

I got my first Flames jersey in 1996 and it's hanging on my wall. It's a white, pedestal Fleury jersey.

I was born 1 month after they won the Stanley Cup. So you can imagine my pain.
I want to be able to remember a Flames cup victory in my lifetime. It's not the same being told all about the "glory days" than to actually live them, as it's difficult to live vicariously through someone else's (albeit awesome) recollections from a past era of the game. For me, the closest thing to that was 04-06. But despite this, I'm typically one of the most optimistic posters on this board. Had season seats from the early-mid 90s until just before the '04 run, so Theo Fleury was my favourite player as a kid. Anyways, there's my fan bio.

22. I started watching the Flames in a preseason 8-1 thumping of the Leafs in ~2000 (one of the best ways to learn of hockey, no?). Next game was during Vernon's last season in a 7-2 win over Carolina. Somewhere in this time, Jeff Shantz visited my elementary school and filmed a commercial of some variety. Still have his card in my room.
Kind of lost interest until the Flames were deep in the '04 run. Watched the heartbreak (game 6, then 7) while pouring over math homework. The series against the Ducks (and the Darren McCarty goal) is when I really started looking over the roster and team.
I joined this forum as soon as the Flames were pretty much out against the Blackhawks.
Obviously I'm bad luck for the team when on the internet.

I'm 20. There's actually a lot more people around my age on here than I thought. I also assume everyone is a guy too, so it also shocks me to find out when posters are girls.
Earliest Flames memory would be the Flames-Ducks brawl in 2002. I know it wasn't my first Flames game, but that's the earliest game I remember. My first game was in '96 or '97 against Buffalo. I would have been 2 or 3. One of the rare people my age who can say they were a Flames fan before 2004.

17, sir. Started following the Flames during the 2004 cup run because I didn't have a favorite team at the time.

36 this Friday.
I went to my first game in 1986 or 1987. I'm not entirely sure exactly. I do know it was 5-3 win over the North Stars. I remember the 86 run, but not that clearly.
I remember everything about winning the cup in 1989 even though my dad ended up taking me to Australia with him after round 2. I rocked my Flames jersey and and hat all over Melbourne. It was impossible to find out ANYTHING back then, unless you were rich and had satellite TV. I didn't even know we had won the cup until I was on a flight back from LAX. I overheard 2 guys talking about Montreal and the Flames in the final. I jumped up and asked who won. They said Flames in 6. I sat back down and couldn't believe it.
When I finally got back home, my uncle (Nammer403's dad, Nammer was only 5 months old!) had a VHS tape for me. On it was game 6 of the finals, the parade, and the celebrations at Olympic plaza. Wow. I literally cried watching it all. Unreal. I'm pretty sure I can still name all the players on that team in numerical order because I watched the tape over and over. I think it maybe in my basement somewhere. I'm sure I never threw it out.
2003-2004 I achieved my life long dream of being a season ticket holder and have been ever since.... And always will be.
