Kinda funny story. My sister in law woke up, she lives in Copperfield, goes to her garage and realizes that she left the door open. And then realizes that someone grabbed her new bicycle from the car rack during the night. The bike is a Canadian tire special for $149.

Her husband looks up Kijiji a couple nights later notices an identical bike was posted there for a quick sale. He confirmed that it was their bike, because of some scratches and stickers on the bars that he recognized.

So the two of them set up a meet with the seller. Really with no plan but with the intent to "steal" the bike back. It was 9pm, they drive to meet the guy, at his house. Luckily they spot a cruiser parked nearby. They tell the officer the story and he tells them he will follow them to the meet and park nearby. The husband meets the seller, sketchy guy, asks to take a test ride. Rides the bike over to the cop, and confirms that it is the right bike. Meanwhile the seller no ties the cop car and makes a break for it. But the cop caught up to him in his own backyard and arrested.
Nice try........

The man who stole Kayla Smith’s bike, then tried to sell it on Craigslist, had one request when she asked to take it for a test drive. “Don’t ride away,” he said.
Ms. Smith, a 33-year-old bartender at a trendy Gastown pub, had set up the meeting after seeing her bike of a mere 4 1/2 months pop up on the online classifieds website. As she stood in the McDonald’s parking lot where she and the seller had agreed to meet, the only one of the two who knew the bike was actually hers, Ms. Smith still hadn’t settled on a game plan.

Once met up a person to sell a camera that I had been sitting on for a while.
In a parking lot, at night. Luckily my coworkers came with me.

He was a really nice guy. Just desperate to buy it immediately but definitely not something you'll ever want to do.

Yeah ok dude. This specifically happened with my sister in law (wife's sister) on kijiji in August last year, you do understand that there could be more than one of this instance?

I do every Kijiji transaction possible at my work, or in the lobby of my Condo building because both locations have security cameras up the wazoo.

If I ever meet in public, it is inside a Tim Hortons or Starbucks, because they are always packed.

The two stories are also quite different, if you bother to read both.

I almost always make the person come to my condo complex and we do the deal in the lobby in front of 2 cameras.
Although you do have to consider how many deals are done and how many incidents happen.... I bet less than 0.01% end in trouble!

Strictest condo board ever! Installing cameras in you wazoo! Must be painful to sit. What is the condo fee on that?

It happened. I am not sure why the cop helped out, but he did. He called for back up once he got the guy in cuffs.

There are tons of stories similar to Oilyfans. A lot of people tape these encounters for evidence later. Lots of fun to be had if you search around YouTube for these

They could still be concealing a weapon if you meet in a public place.

The only truly safe way to conduct kijiji transactions is to meet in bathing suits in a public swimming pool...

Glad he got it back and the thief was a clown but a little more played out than it had to be!
