What about former Flames? How do these guys compare to previous Flames speedsters?

I was always impressed with Lombardi's speed. He is one of the fastest I've ever seen.

We had some good speedsters on the 2004 team too. I liked the 2004 team. They may have played a tight defensive game but their speed made it fun to watch and that is what is happening with the current team... maybe less emphasis on the defense until you die approach though.

Rico Fata was one of our all time fastest players.

Shean Donovan and Matt Lombardi probably had the best breakaway speed of the cup run team but Gelinas still had his skating legs back then too. Donovan was effortless, so fast.

Speed is important and I think we lacked it at times under Sutter. Our backend is now extremely mobile. Nice to have Poirier on the way.

I hear Johnny hockey has that deceptive quickness similar to guys like datsyuk and baertschi... Where they look like they aren't going that fast and suddenly make a couple strides and are flying by people.
