Ewwww... they needed a goalie but I don't think Bryz is the answer. As someone said, price must have been too high on Halak as he's much better when healthy.

It's impossible for the Oilers to not win a Stanley Cup after this! </HNIC expert panel>

I don't think they do need a goalie, Darcy Kuemper has been great and this gives him a vet backup. Sure he is a rookie but Minny knows they don't have the horses to contend for the SC anyhow.

Kuemper's been great for sure but after that they have a couple question marks in goal. Harding's also been great but has his ongoing health issues. Backstrom also has injury problems, albeit lesser than Harding, but has also been pretty bad in goal this season when healthy. Also is 36.

IMO they needed some kind of a stop gap. Perhaps Bryz isn't all that bad considering they aren't shooting for the SC as you said and they'll have a better idea of where Harding's at in the off-season.

Must suck to be a Wild fan. It seems they can never climb higher than just making the playoffs. No idea why they would bring in a guy that has a penchant for being terrible in the playoffs.

How does this look any different? they have already got assets for Smid. Replaced Bryz with Fasth all while getting rid of a #5 defenseman that comes with a cap hit of 3.5 million.

Not that it really matters much in that part of the draft, but the 4th rounder is Buffalo's (which Minnesota acquired last year in the Pominville deal). So, it's about a half a round difference from the Wild's 4th.

I agree with you that it doesn't look any different. But only because the moves Edmonton took to acquire Bryzgalov were hilariously bad right from the start. That the other shoe dropped doesn't change the situation.

If the Jets are smart, they are going after a goalie.

Wild fans seem happy about this one from what I've read. Not having to give up much for a decent 1b.

Just wait until they see him in a game though

In other words, they're not going after a goalie

Well, Winnipeg was smart enough to dump Noel a few weeks too late. So, really, I figure around March 11, they will start looking to trade for a goalie...

I think this is a smart trade for Minny - they needed a backup for this year, but didn't want to give up too much because well, it's just for this year.

So the Oilers take little back for Smid in order to get cap space for Bryz, and then move him for a 4th (which I assume will be spent on a 150 lb European winger with a nice highlight reel package)

Rebuild complete

Wild should of bent over a bit for Buff and got Halak, Bryz is not the answer in Minnesota.
