IMO their situation going forward mirrors the Flames as MacT is throwing darts at backup goaltenders in hopes one of them can turn into a starter.

Wow, Scrivens & Fasth splitting the nets next year; could be one of the best tandems in the league. Now they can focus on putting real NHL defensemen in jerseys over the draft & summer.

I wonder what other assets they had to give up.

If the league you're referring to is the AHL, then maybe. Both Scrivens and Fasth are 1B starters at best.

Oilers are taking a real Flyers approach to goaltending. Try anyone and everyone in net and see if something sticks.

Don't know how well that's going to work out for them...

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
I believe Anaheim got two mid-round picks for Fasth from Edmonton... but waiting to confirm that

Seems like a good move to me. What'd they give up though?

I think you nailed it here. The guys they develop bomb and they scour the league for backups in hopes one can turn into a starter. I don't fault MacT for this as they have nothing in their system but it's a stretch to think that either of those goaltenders will turn elite especially playing behind that defense.

Haven't paid much attention to the ducks this year, who's going to back up Hiller?

Fasth to the Oilers for a 5th in 2014 and 3rd in 2015.

Holy crap, I had no idea that Fasth was 31. He was just a rookie last season. Crazy. Thoughts and prayers from going from a top Cup contender...to a top draft contender.

Maybe the American goalie from the WJC.

they have two really good young goaltenders in the pipeline - Fredrik Andersen has looked very good in his callups, and they also have John Gibson in the AHL. For now, surely Andersen is the guy to back up Hiller while Gibson gets more AHL seasoning.

So, the Oilers have now traded away their second, third, fourth, and fifth rounders for this year's draft (while acquiring San Jose and Buffalo's - from Minnesota - fourths).
