Anyone acquired tomorrow would be doubtful to be in Calgary in time for the game.

just because he's waived doesn't mean that he'll be sent to Abbotsford immediately. If he's not traded tomorrow (which is possible - maybe a team is interested in him as a depth option but want him waived first, like with Karlsson back then) and the Flames need bodies for the game, it's possible that they won't send him down immediately.

If Smith clears waivers we have something like 30 days to send him down or he will have to be waived again. This really doesn't mean much in the short term
also if he clears he could be traded and his new club can send him to the minors.

this almost guarantees we are making some moves in which players will be coming back... Jones will be put on IR soon also so we have a few roster spots open...
Conacher is intriging he will likely get claimed, and I wouldnt be surprised if a team in need of a PP specialist claims Corvo

AFAIK, the new CBA changed some of the rules regarding AHL transactions after the trade deadline, but from what I've found, the rule that a player must be on an AHL team's roster at the deadline in order to play in the AHL playoffs is still in place.
This requires teams to make "paper transactions", where players are demoted in the morning of the trade deadline and immediately recalled after the deadline (the Flames did this with Backlund a few years ago). Usually, the player doesn't even leave the NHL team during his brief "demotion".
I assume we'll see Smith, Ortio, and Granlund all "sent down" tomorrow morning, then recalled in time for the game (along with anyone else who's needed to ice a team tomorrow night -- assuming a bunch of trades go down).

wasn't all that stuff eliminated altogether? Not sure if it was only for the lockout season, but I thought those restrictions were lifted.

Not sure why they would waive Cory Conacher....while he hasn't been lights out he hasnt been bad nor on a bad contract.

He's on waivers to give the team added flexibility.

Not according to this story from last year's deadline: http://pppshow.net/2013/04/04/clarit...r-eligibility/
The "Clear Day" roster has been eliminated, but it seems there's still a requirement that a player be on the AHL roster at the deadline in order to play in the AHL playoffs.

I predict Buffalo claims Conacher. Edmonton likely passes, as he's not an upgrade on their top 6.
Calgary depends on trades. He could be a spot filler assuming Cammalleri is gone.

He has 8 goals in the last 99 games, when you are the size he is you need to be contributing offensively to have worth for your team. He's a player who had a hot start to his career and then has ridden that reputation for a season and a half now.

He has been bad relative to what he needs to do to be an NHL player - and that is chip in offence. Conacher belongs in the AHL right now.

Exactly.
I do not know why people keep saying Calgary should claim him.

Agreed there too. Conacher does not upgrade Byron, so why bother?

No chance we claim Conacher with Burke trying to make the team bigger. I could maybe see Vancouver put in a claim considering they desperately need scoring and players under 25 on ther roster

Conacher is for certain a zero risk pick. BUt IMO now is not the time for Calgary to pick up another smaller player when they're on the cusp of signing one out of college and trying to move out another.
Burke will add size and skill before claiming a smaller player first. Just my take.

That Ben Bishop trade was a reaming. We should have been in on that.
