I thought it was fun, and kind of ridiculous.
Award worthy? I don't know, surprising to me really, but it was fun.

It's it always a mix of the two though?
I'm torn between Leto and Fassbender for best supporting Oscar but as much as I love Fassbender and his performance I think the nod goes to Leto. It would have been so easy to play that character over the top, campy and silly. A transgender character traditionally is just pure comedy. Leto gave it respect and played it dignified.
Both are deserving, might give it to Leto though.

I kinda agree with this train of thought too. The most deserving are actors who were able to totally submerge themselves into their roles and make viewers believe that they don't just play them but they are who they portray. Leto's role was it.

Leto is odd. I don't really find him interesting as a person (his speeches, interviews, all that sort of stuff come off as a bit silly), and it is kind funny that he plays in a pop/punk/emo type band (complete with eyeliner and all that) BUT DAMN, guy can act like nobodies business when he wants to.
DBC was great, and I loved him in Lord of War.

Crazy how McConaughey went from being a laughing stock to one of the best in Hollywood.

There used to be a time that I saw every nominated film (in the major categories) prior to Oscar night. I just looked at the full list of nominees and Star Trek is the only movie nominated in any category that I've seen so far.

Also I know Leto is the favourite to take best supporting actor, but I'd love to see Barkhad Abdi take it. Underrated performance for sure.
You know what else was ####ing underrated this year? Rush. Not ONE nomination. The Academy is becoming a joke.

Yeah, Rush was easily one of my favourite films of the year.

Christian Bale (American Hustle)
Bruce Dern (Nebraska)
Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street)
Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave)
Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club)

I haven't seen Wolf of Wall Street but I'd easily remove Christian Bale and insert Daniel Bruhl as Niki Lauda from Rush.

Yeah, Bruhl's performance was superior to Bales. Just as Rush for me was ahead of American Hustle on my year's best list. It's a travesty, really, that the movie and its performances were given no recognition.

How does Tom Hanks not get nominated for best actor for his role in "Captain Phillips"?

The only things I specifically care to happen tonight are Leto winning supporting, and Gravity not winning Best Picture.
...one down, one to go. Atta boy!

The internet would be on the brink of exploding if Gravity wins, but what will bring it down with fury is if Bullock wins Best Actress.

I loved Gravity, one of my favourite films of the year, though I don't think it should win best picture. I'm kind of hoping it wins now though, just to see how some of you react.

Best sound, best sound mixing, best cinemtography, best film editing, best visual effects.... sure. And accordingly, it won all those. But the acting was nothing particularly special, nor was the screenplay, and to me that's what makes a movie. Lupita and Jared won so I'm happy with these Oscars for the most part, regardless of how Best Picture turns out.

Imagine what kind of person would wish that Bette Midler was on the "those we lost" list so they wouldn't have to hear her sing.
... imagine.
