Doubt it. More like Butler was a game-day decision and is feeling good enough to play.
Billins will be a healthy scratch, I'd wager to say.
Then why call Billins up if we already have Smith up??? It looks like Butler is a go as well... I have to think Burke might be making a deal sometime today.
I think Butler has been fine this year....go ahead and flame me but he makes the same mistakes as every other Dman but that are amplified by the haters IMO.

I think the call was made last night to call up Billins (Ward mentioned they were losing another player in his post game PC last night), and the expectation was that Butler was going to be out tonight and Smith would be in. Billins would have been called up just in case someone got hurt in the pregame.
Now that Butler appears to be good to go, Billins seems to be redundant, but they didn't know that when they called him up.

I agree with Getback on the rationale but it could also enable a potential trade to have called up Billins already. We know that Burke is going to try to trade at least one dman (Butler or Wideman) by the deadline. Likely Billins is up for awhile, just hope that he gets a chance like Cundari did last year.

Hartley said the Billins recall was 'just in case' and that Butler made the decision that he was good to go this morning #Flames

I call bs. Heat play tonight and are in the thick of it (could use Billins) and couple that with Smith being available in case Butler couldn't go, this smells funny.

They could have used him last night.... a puzzling recall because of the fact we had D. Smith to put in if Butler was out.
When they recalled him, Butler was expected to be out. With McGrattan still hurting and Stempniak off for the birth of his kids, they were carrying no extra bodies in case someone got hurt in practice or woke up with a 24 hour bug.

I am not sure why so many people are having an issue wrapping their minds around this. You are without a doubt 100% right.

As I recall, they thought Butler might miss at least a game or two so Flames brass thought they need to call up another D just in case. Looks like Butler's injury was not severe enough and he ended up playing last night. It's a precaution so I don't see any kind of conspiracy about it. Every team wants to make sure they have a backup plan just in case.
