Baptists are crazy.
I'm not even sure what I'd be capable of doing if that was my child.

Their constant speech when something awful like this happens is that God is punishing us by killing innocents because we are sinning by loving gay people. So, they say that the little girl was murdered because God is punishing us- so they are picketing the memorial to say 'God Hates Gays' as in 'Ha ha you sinners, you love gays and look what you get- a dead girl.' This is what they really say, on the news, on their social media, when they picket.. etc.

People lock arms to prevent members of the Westboro Baptist Church from attending a memorial service outside the Aurora Municipal Center in Aurora, Colorado. The memorial was for the victims that were killed and wounded during the mass shooting at a movie theater.

I was searching for something to post in response to this.
I have none.
I will say, good on you for standing in the shield, although I doubt I could remain peaceful when faced with these individuals.

This may have been discussed in another more general WBC thread, and doesn't necessarily have anything to do with this particular picket event, but...
Seeing as these guys tend to blame everything bad that happens on America tolerating homosexuality, hypothetically what would they say if, let's say God, were to lock the doors and windows of their church from the outside, and after "raining" some accelerant all over the building, caused lighting in the form of a match to strike the building, burning everything inside?

Some have said that making a big deal out of these losers gives them media coverage that they crave and do not deserve. But I think it is serving to galvanize people against Westboro's agenda.

the university of Alabama let these turds come and boycott the tornado victims last year. The honor guard and a bunch of hairy bikers were there blocking them out.
Also, me and my boss agreed that we were not going to allow them to stay at our hotel when they came.

Baptists aren't crazy. These loonies are crazy. If they were from Calgary would you say Calgarians are crazy because of a few nutjobs?

No but I had a friend in Calgary who's next door neighbours were baptists. They had people over, get togethers, and we could hear them get all baptisted up and speak in tongues. Crazy baptists. Aren't most snake handler type xtians, baptists?

Really stupid, First Amendment says you have the right to freedom of speech but if you stood up and hollered "FIRE" in a movie theater you would be arrested for incitement.
Same should happen to these ######s.

Baptists? Speak in tongues? Heh, no. More likely they were Pentecostals or Full Gospel. Same with the snake handlers.

I honestly don't understand how these losers are allowed to continue doing what they do. How far does the First Amendment go to protect them? How does what they are saying and doing not constitute a hate crime or hate speech? What about calling what they do "bullying", isn't that a crime in the States? I just don't get it.

The Obama administration will not label Westboro Baptist Church a hate group, saying it's not the government's practice to apply the designation.
Quote:
On Tuesday, the White House posted its response to the Westboro petitions.
Officially, the response to the requested hate group designation was "no comment."
"As a matter of practice, the federal government doesn't maintain a list of hate groups," the White House said.
Instead, labeling hate groups is the job of private groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League, the White House said.
But the administration did comment on other aspects of the petitions, agreeing that protesting at military funerals - one of Westboro's favorite practices - is "reprehensible." An animated map posted online shows what the White House says is opposition to the church spreading across the country.
"We agree that practices such as protesting at the funerals of men and women who died in service to this country and preventing their families from mourning peacefully are reprehensible - a point that President Obama has made for years," the White House said.
In response to Westboro, Congress and Obama enacted a law in 2012 restricting protesters' time at, and proximity to, military funerals. The law followed a 2011 Supreme Court decision upholding Westboro's free speech rights to protest at funerals

As previously stated, these #######s don't really have any particular agenda other than provoking people into assaulting them and then suing them (they are in large part, lawyers and their friends/families)
Their religious and political meanderings are nothing more than a veil to affirm their right to protest.
At some point, protest laws need revision. It's a shame the cops are never busy during one of these protests so these Westboro twats could get faceraped without any consequence

Me either.
I don't get how gun loving America don't snipe a few of them, I hate guns but if these idiots showed up at one of my familys funerals I think they would have a funeral of their own to visit.

I think you have to take the bad with the good when it comes to free speech, and any limits on it have to be very seriously thought about by lots of brains all far above my pay grade.
I'm not sure protesting a funeral or just saying "God Hates Fags" should be limited since while it is hateful, I'm not sure that being hateful in itself should be limited, but when the speech incites violence then it crosses that line. But different countries have different places they put that line.
I'm sure Westboro chooses their slogans carefully (as pointed out they're a family of lawyers), they don't have signs advocating stoning of homosexuals for example.
As for your case BigBrodieFan, I think the human wall idea is the perfect response. Engaging them just legitimizes them. Advocating violence against them just plays into their hands and harms us more than it does them. A human wall resists them but doesn't engage them. Feels like satyagraha
