I understand what it looks like (and it does look that way) with regards to his attitude/motivation. However, were there ever any substantial claims made by teammates or coaches to back it up?

He was on pace for a respectable 55 points. I think he wasn't mentally the strongest of players but I don't know if he purposely quit. I realize some fans soured on him but I think Tangs was a pretty good player during his two stints as a Flame and I hope he has a full recovery and good season next year.

This is how you try to defend or put down another persons comment, when directly above you note that he had 11 points in 14 games. Pick a side please.

That's literally the definition of contrarian.

I was simply pointing out that he was more of a 70~ point player, not an elite one.

Contrarian is when someone purposely takes the other side just for the sake of it, not what I did at all.

Not a big difference, but he had 11 points in 16 games this year.

You'd have to be incredibly mentally prepared for faking a hip surgery, we need a guy with this mental focus on our team.

Yeah, maybe we were too quick in writing him off.

I'm on pain meds and booze right now (broke a finger...and get a sick day off work Friday...get to catch the Can/USA game live...woo-hoo!), so this post really has little point and take it for what it is, which is nothing.
I loved Tangs first stint w/ the Avs, hated to see him go. Took some joy in seeing him never really living up to his expected potential outside of Colorado. Was hesitant seeing him coming back to the Avs. Was very pleased with what he brought to this years Avs team, and am fairly disappointed that he'll miss the rest of the season.
I feel that Tangs is a player that many of us see a ton of potential in and yet for some reason or another, has never really lived up to it...call it not enough heart...or too much quit...or too much prima donna...I don't know.
Still love watching the guy skate and pass...still wish he'd shoot more. Look forward to watching him next year.
I like Tanguay.

Props for breaking your finger just so you can watch the game. I can see Tanguay is a big inspiration.

And that's another thing, I know this isn't the right forum for this, but I busted my finger at 5:30 a.m., went to work hoping it was just jammed, it still looked pretty funky at lunch time, so went to the walk-in clinic across the road...within 30 minutes I had been x-rayed and was getting the finger splinted. I told the doc how I was hoping to catch the game tomorrow, and he asked me if I wanted a doctor's note (hell yeah I did), then he asked me if I wanted a pain med subscription (sure!). $20 co-pay and I got leave work early on a Thursday afternoon...3-day weekend!
My healthcare has always been pretty good (and quick) in the U.S.

Yeah he did, he missed 13 games. Not sure what your point is though since missing 13 games doesn't hold a candle to the approximately 70 games Tanguay is going to miss.
