Yea, the contract space is more valuable than the pick for the Flames right now, IMO.

Knowing nothing about the situation I can't really comment, but there's always $125 waivers.

Interesting info about McDermid's regression within the Flames org in a short period of time. I hope we have another contract space because of it.
Was he helpful at all playing for the Heat?

No. Not really.
ECHL guys like Kremyr and Trupp have come in and contributed as much or more.
The thing about this years Heat team, is that they generate their energy from scoring goals, not from fights and checking. They are the least penalized team in their conference. It stems from a ruthless systems game that never quits.
Could be that this system is one that MacDermid couldn't thrive in. He's not the only guy dealing with being a healthy scratch down there. I think their captain has sat more than he's dressed this year. It's just a deep team.
Whatever the conflict, I hope it gets sorted amicably, especially for Lane's sake. Hockey players come and go through organizations without much thought, but to Lane, it's his career in the balance right now.

Well, there you go, failure to report back to the Heat after the All-Star break...

In addition to the recalls, the #Flames have announced MacDermid has been suspended from the club for failing to report after AHL break.

I read it very similar.
I know a few AHL teams had some issues with guys not being able to get out East in time for the first game after the break due to the snowstorms, however no one appeared to be suspended due to it and it was accepted that "Travel Issues" were occurring and best efforts had been made.
This doesn't sound like the same sort of thing.

Ortio (and Kiprusoff) are mentioned in this month's Atlantic magazine.

Whilst Macdermid was had for only a 6th round pick, someone still didn't do their due dilligence on the trade, especially as this kid has taken such a nose dive so quickly. Was he really the right body to go for?
Lets hope that we make better use of our draft picks going forward.

Yeah that was a stupid trade. Glad we're moving on and giving others a chance instead like Hanowski.

Apparently Flames are looking to make sure they sign Gaudreau and send hi to the minors to prove to Sven that other prospects that are highly touted also can be sent there......more to follow. Burke was quoted as saying, organizational priority #1 is to manage Sven's feelings.

Just wait until Burke actually compares the schedules between BC and the Flames and realizes that there is basically zero likelihood that Gaudreau could even play for the Flames this year, but good on him for using Gaudreau as a pawn in his chess match with Sven... Assuming your source?? is accurate.

I seem to recall a similar situation with another player before where he was suspended for "failing to report" as the technical reason, but as it turned out there was an agreement between the player and the team for an unpaid leave of absence (the reasons of which were kept private).

Practice today, Stempniak left for personal reasons and McGrattan hurt himself going into the boards.

Great article, thanks for posting. Man do I miss Kipper. He made goaltending look like art. I hope Ortio can follow in his footsteps and become the next elite Finnish goaltender.

Brandon Astle (Heat PBP guy) reported during the game tonight that he has heard the news on Ramo isn't good. It is expected that the Ortio recall is long term.

That really sucks. I like how Ramo was progressing through the season.
At the same time, Ortio is due for a shot and has really earned it. I am looking forward to seeing him get some NHL development time in.
