Again? Damn, that's crazy. I didn't know it could happen twice.

I think the point he was trying to make is that it will be a better world when publicizing sexual orientation is no longer needed to encourage others to be honest about their own sexuality. When being gay or straight is looked at the same as being left-handed or right-handed.
We have a long way to go, admittedly.

Everyone gets the point of what he said, but as you alluded to we're not even close. We still have US states passing laws this week legalizing bigotry so the point is irrelevant and utopian and doesn't really add anything to the fabric of the conversation.

"Who cares?" is in the present tense. And as you know, LOTS OF PEOPLE DO. They shouldn't, but they do.
Someone said the same thing to me earlier today, but it was "brown eyes vs blue eyes" instead of "left or right handed". Same difference. My response was that people can stop announcing their sexual preferences on the day that it is the same. We don't see high school kids belittling people for being left handed and harassing them online... or worse beating them. We don't hear of discrimination cases against left handed people. And we don't see Russia banning public displays of left-handedness. Until then people will and should take the brave step of outing themselves.
Rick Mercer's rant on why we desperately NEED more people to step up to the plate and let people know that they are gay and that it is perfectly okay:

110% agreed. I was responding specifically to the first part of the comment. The 'who cares' bit I didn't agree with at all.

That wasn't the point Cheese was trying to make. He did fine at the beginning, but when he said "who cares?" he showed a lack of understanding of the situation, or was being a crusty old man who doesn't want to hear about homosexuality.
I kind of agree with what cheese said. I think it's unfortunate that people have to come out in the first place.
She looks really nervous and scared. She shouldn't have to go through that, nobody should.
People have to keep coming out so that it just becomes a normal "thing" where people are used to it. Once that happens, we will stop making threads about it and it won't get any news play, it will just be a normal thing that no one will report on.
We are going to look really silly in 20 years when it's not a big deal at all, and I look forward to that day because that means we are headed in the right direction.
I think the US is slightly behind Canada/Europe on this topic as well, so maybe it's not a big deal to us here, but it sure is still a big deal to a lot of people in the US.
I applaud her for her efforts for the cause and her bravery to stand up there and say those things with everyone looking on.

I applaud her courage for coming out. Not enough time is being spent on the gay and lesbian community these days. Maybe this will finally help to shed some light on and finally give the gays and lesbians some much needed Positive attention.
Haha, you must have been a pretty big wuss when you were a kid. She's a tiny, sweet girl.
To be fair, Ellen Page at times looks like she could be the litle sister of Linda Cardellini. Cardellini played a sort of bully older sister in Freaks & Geeks.
I'm not even sure who she is, but I'd be ok with her being in the same locker room as me.
Slava does not approve of this, or sorry, he doesn't approve if this on behalf of others that may or may not approve of this. What was it again? Gays in the locker room is the same as guys and girls together? Or guys shouldn't be in the same room as le.....wait what was it again?
