That should knock McMorris off the podium, 2nd place run I'd say. But what do I know.

Bleh, maybe not enough risk in his technical elements or something.
Sage is a ridiculous first name btw.

I have no idea about the scoring but I was surprised with the 5th. That last jump looked great.

A bronze is great and all, but based on expectations and results coming in for this event, it sort of seems like a lackluster result.

With a busted rib, it's tough to be disappointed with McMorris. However, Parrot and Toutant are certainly lackluster.

indeed, with all the hype behind our guys in slopestyle, this was a bit of a let down...
somewhat feel the Canadian guys are overrated.
Definitely the gold and silver earned their place

Awesome to watch! A good start to the games for Canada to medal in an event where it was expected.

I can't speak for the other guy who missed the podium but Max Parrot definitely deserved the hype. He has dominated that event all year. Tough break for him, I admittedly know nothing about the judging but it seemed like he had enough to knock out McMorris.
Big sigh of relief that we came out of this with a medal, sets a positive tone for Team Canada going forward.

It seems the guys were expecting x-games style judging but got fis. Fis which is a ski federation shouldn't be judging. I guess the coaches should've been finding out what they were looking for.
Regardless, congrats to McMorris. Awesome to get on the podium witha fractured rib. Now I get to go watch a Vans rail jam at COP.

Coming out of a gate with a dud is a bit of a Canadian tradition. While it did seem like we could've had multi medals in this event, it's nice to at least get one to get things rolling. I was really hoping it would be a gold though...I'd definitely like to see us repeat as gold winners.

Well FIS isn't just a ski federation anymore, but they are definitely different judging styles.
The X-Games will generally reward the rider with the best trick. So long as the rest of their run was decent, being the one who pushes the boundaries is what gets the high scores. FIS doesn't want to see anything sloppy and that includes those 'next level' tricks, which rewards solid but more conservative runs (as does the 2 run format). I don't like the FIS system as much because it doesn't set the best environment for the sport but also because the X-Games style judging is more about beating the other riders while the FIS format is more about beating the judges.
As you said, this is something the coaches should have been finding out, especially after those qualifying runs. However Parrot getting a 97 in qualification and then putting down a better run in the finals and not cracking 90 is one of the reasons people have been perplexed about the judging. It doesn't seem clear what they're really looking for.
Kotsenberg seemed to have found it and congrats to him.

Introducing a contentious opinion:
If you have to judge it, it's not athletics.

I see your point, but hockey, basketball and football rely heavily on judgement calls from referees...
