My bet is on Gio.

Any word out of Sweden about who will be replacing Franzen on their Olympic roster? I thought they were supposed to announce it today.

I know Backlund is still a long-shot, but this has to help his chances a little.

Also, what's Sedin's status? Is he expected back in time for Sochi?

Someone posted a supposed list showing that Backlund wasn't even on team Sweden's radar. Which is fine for me as a Canada fan.

Friedman mentioned that most insiders had Gustav Nyquist as the leading candidate to be named to their squad

As for Backlund... great to see him progress! Still not sure what his ultimate potential is but he's showing signs that he can be a part of the solution when this thing eventually turns around

What sucks is that he went on a tear after Burke's comment, now BB is going to think that calling our players out in public is a great motivation tool.

Gio could've been a star of the month IMO.

Well done Backlund, Flames fans are proud. Nice to see in a season with low expectations.

I think what impresses me about his week was that he averaged 2 points a game against top teams in Chicago, San Jose, and Minny...

Congrats to Backlund, hope it's first of many to come. Glad to see he's making me look and the rest of us doubters fools.

That said, I still have my doubts, and might still sell high if I was the GM. I'm sure everyones glad I'm not (Also, I'm not being 100% serious, and I'm glad I don't have to make those kinds of calls.)

I almost feel dirty typing this and don't get me wrong, Backlund has played great and is a very deserving recipient, but a 59 save shutout performance and making 96 out of 100 saves doesn't earn Ben Scrivens a star this past week?

No, but it might get him a $6 x 6 contract!

A hardy yet slightly greasy handshake from Darryl Katz and a 6 month invite to the Friday night game of strip twister with Kevin Lowe and Mac-T?

The difference between star of the night and star of the week is Schrivens let in 4 goals the next game

Nyquist got the call.

Sedin should be fine AFAIK.

He only played 2 games last week and went 1-1. He got a shutout in one game but allowed 4 in the other.
