Unfortunate that Ramo is injured but this happened at the perfect time. This is most definitely the easiest 3 game road trip we've had this season. He won't be under too much pressure from playing at home and surely will be pumped to play in a crazy arena like Montreal.
I say give him at least 2 of the 3 games on this road trip and see what the kid can do!
If they have penciled Berra in for tomorrow, it's maybe due to the added pressure of keeping our win streak going. Let Berra put an end to that and have him start against the craptacular Islanders.

@NHLFlames: #Flames Injury Update: @RamoKarri has suffered an MCL injury (right knee)
Looks like Ortio could have an extended call-up while Ramo is out.

ehhh, there have been a significant number of stinkers between the first twenty and the last 6 or 7.

Ugh, and MCL for Ramo. That sucks. If we have to have Berra do heavy lifting for the rest of the season, we're not gonna be looking too good.

Oh wow, MCL is a pretty serious injury isn't it? especially for a goalie? Correct me if I'm overreacting, but that's AT LEAST 6 weeks isn't it? more likely 8-12?
So is Ortio going to be up here for almost the rest of the year?

Depending on the grade could be anywhere from him being ready after the Olympic break to 6-8 weeks.
Hopefully it's just a grade one.

Hopefully Ortio gets in a game this week. Not sure how bad Ramo's injury is, but Olympic break might be long enough for Ramo to heal up and get back.

Yeah, usually 6 or so if it's just stretched, can be 10+ if it's torn. Thankfully we have the olympic break to absorb some of that. Sucks that it's when he was really starting to find his game.

rosters are frozen on Feb 7th; Flames play on the 8th
If necessary, do the Flames keep him up after the 7th, but then have him sit for two weeks, or send him down after they play the Islanders on the 6th?

The Flames aren't going to make the playoffs and aren't in the playoff race so IMO if you bring up Ortio you may as well play him and let him get his feet wet as opposed to just having him warm the bench for a few weeks.

There's not enough information to gauge the seriousness of it.
If it is a Grade 3 injury (MCL tear typically), then yes it is serious and at least 6 weeks to heal from surgery and probably another month of conditioning.
If it is a Grade 1 injury (MCL sprain), it's probably 2-3 weeks of rest and icing and stretching.
If it's a Grade 2 injury (severe MCL sprain), you are looking at a month.

Ramo's likely out till just after the olympics to mid march give or take. At worst he's done for the year.

I'm optimistic, I think he's a better goalie than Berra right now.

Hoping we get a chance to see Ortio play, he's been amazing in Abbotsford. I'd be tempted to play him over Berra at this point.

Heck, even if you look only at the intangibles/X factors he's already better; the team will probably work harder in front of him and play with confidence, and he's feeling pretty good from being dominant in the AHL. You don't dress a hot goaltender to warm the bench.

Just for comparisons sake for those who might not be familiar with Ortio's stellar play this year for the Heat, lets put him up against a 'top prospect':
John 'golden child' Gibson: 31 GP - 10-14-4, 0.920 save %, 2.40 GAA
Joni 'work horse' Ortio: 25 GP - 19-5-0, 0.930 save %, 2.08 GAA
People will argue that one goalie has a better team in front of him, but if I remember correctly, the Heat were struggling big time before Ortio stepped in and gave them numerous solid performances for them to build on. I might be remembering that wrong though if someone from the farm team board can confirm please.
