I remember at the freestyle national championships a few years back one of the women (even though she was probably 15 or 16) who did a pretty basic run but landed her tricks, finished pretty low (like 10th) and the announcers said "just to show how far the sport has come, that was the exact same run that Jean-Luc Brassard won gold with in '94".
Though they weren't allowed inverted tricks back then, that is pretty cool.
Best of all is CBC's Olympic music is back as well!
Also watching that Youtube clip I guess Brian Williams won't be doing the prime time coverage this time around. I love Ron Maclean and all, but for some reason Brian Williams and the Olympics go hand in hand for me.
The Olympic should always be on CBC simply for the theme alone. That has to be one of the greatest in all sports. Goosebumps everytime I hear it.
When Joannie did her free skate, I was having dinner in Vancouver in Yaletown. Everyone in the restaurant stopped what they were doing, from the staff to the patrons, to watch her skate. You could hear a pin drop. When she landed that final double combination and then finished her performance, the whole place started cheering and gave her a standing ovation. It still gives me goosebumps thinking about it. What a moment.

The only time I've ever watched figure skating with any real interest (other than seeing hot girls in tight outfits). Such a powerful performance that will be remembered by Canadians for generations to come

Absolutely. There's something about the Olympics and when your country has "The Moment". You might not normally watch a sport, but you're drawn in because of the bigger picture. It's so special.

Nothing can quite top a good "Where were you when..." sports moment.
Makes my dorm room in UofC Trad in 1999 look comfy!
