What about replacing the power supply unit yourself.

Google the part number. You should be able to find the replacement unit online.

Then plug and play.

Should be cheaper than having a repairman do it.

Our Samsung 55" did the same thing...clicked and clicked repeatedly before finally turning on. Eventually it would just click and not power up at all.

Called Samsung, and even though the TV was just out of warranty, they covered the capacitor replacement. It's working great now, but at some point, it'll be replaced with a new one.

Ah....ya, I'm not going to screw around with that. I'm no good with a soldering iron.

I'll give Samsung a call.

Mind you....a nice new smart TV with web browsing would be all kinds of sweet.

I had the same problem, and I fixed it myself. It's online on the link. I flirted with having a blog for a while, and I have what I did all on there. Same issue as you. Very little prior experience with electronic work. Easy to do.
