San Jose is very good at drafting/developing players. They have Hertl, Wingels, Nieto who are all very young and just starting their careers. Couture is pretty young as well.
They'll be fine.

I'd be fine with San Jose winning. I like San Jose because they always seem to embarrass Vancouver.

With the cap going up keeping those numbers low for San Jose is huge.
Burns, Pavelski, Couture, Marleau, Thornton, Vlasic all signed long term to good values.
They will be able to add good players to the core. Havlat will be expiring soon too opening up even more space.

Well…the UFA pool just got that much shallower. There will be some massive overpayments this off season for sure, just hope we aren't too crazy with our cap space.

Definitely difficult to find two potential star players coming through their farm but with the likes of Pavelski, Couture, Burns, and Pavelski, the Sharks have a decent core to keep them competitive for a couple years after that.

Its cool, you can tell me, Wilson and I are tight. He played Havlat for 3 weeks despite the fact that Marty had a broken leg because he knew that I needed points in my pool. I won almost a hundred bucks.

It would have been fun to watch for sure, but I don't think it would have gotten the Flames any closer to winning the cup.
The key to the 2004 team and most championship teams was and is defence and Regher was the anchor.
If we swapped out Regher AND Yelle for Thornton, the defense would have taken a big hit. Probably would have just accelerated Iginla's transition from a 200 foot player to a scorer, but it would definitely have been entertaining. Iggy probably would have score 60 or 70 goals a year with Thornton centering him.

Maybe not for the 2004 cup run, but post lockout the Flames would've been waaaay better off with Thornton than Regehr. Obviously hindisght is 20/20 but that trade could've been a franchise changer for the Flames.

Agreed. 2007-2010, scoring wasn't a problem..... at all... it was consistancy to team defense that really slaughtered us in the end. Its not always about acquiring all the best players, its about acquiring the right players for your team. After all the mocking of the Oilers, I would have thought most on CP would have recognized that.

Good deals for the Sharks. Thornton and Marleau are still a big part of the offense and have been the 2nd and 3rd best forwards on the team this year.

Told Joe Thorntons deal with the Sharks was agreed to a while back...wouldn't sign unless Marleau was re-signing as well #sjsharks

Great and smart signing for the Sharks, the majority of the Flames fan base would be flipping out if our GM or past GM resigned any 34 year old players of any caliber for 3 more years.
SJ realizes they need a strong mixture of young and old, skill and grit added to great leadership to make it all work.

You know what I'd do if I signed a $20M contract? I'd take my c**k out and stroke it.
