I think there's a few things one can do to avoid being bullied:

1. Use things like "I think, I feel, or I believe" with something you can't
really substantiate.

2. Think your post through and anticipate what reaction it may generate,
and be prepared to answer to that reaction.

3. Don't be afraid to admit errors, or to apologize if you are wrong.

4. Let criticism roll off your back and try to develop a thick skin.

5. Try not to take things personally.

6. Don't say anything you wouldn't say in public, or to someone's face.

7. Don't post when you have been drinking, or are in a super emotional
state.

8. Try to be as constructive as possible.

Perhaps too harsh a way of saying that people should loosen up and not take things so seriously around here.

If I ever decide to quit CP, I think I would go out with a bang. Until then, I will do my banging elsewhere.

I find it odd that posters who question a guys sexuality/gender are the same ones reporting to the moderators saying they've been insulted and aggrieved when someone stands up to them. Go back and read the posts and ask yourself, how would you react in that situation?

God forbid that someone have a dissenting view about fighting and try to have a rational discussion. All it did was degenerate into name calling.

In a society where we are trying to address bullying, it seems that there are still some neanderthals that post here who are stuck in the dark ages.

So the bullies go on to live another day while we lose the contributions of a long time Flames fan. Way to go, bullies.

Sorry but this is a complete load of crap.

He was the one who persisted on and on about things, and was quite rightfully called on it.

I mean this isnt at all aggressive is it?

What do you suppose was meant by that?

The right call was made because he was basically asking for it all night after several people warned him to cool it.

And I might add...if you have a problem with how this board is moderated or how someone is being "bullied" (larf) then you should eport it and take it up with a moderator and not starting yet another thread about it.

What are you talking about? Someone posted a comment related to the game and he replied by telling them to remove their signature and then making a derogatory remark about them.

I asked him if that kind of reply was really necessary, and he PM'd me telling me to

No one baited him, nor did they insult him or question race/gender/sexuality. Perhaps you're speaking of something that happened in another thread, but he was rude to pretty much everyone all on his own last night.

I've never had an issue with him before, so I brushed it off as someone having a bad night and simply needed to cool off. Unfortunately, he kept on going and eventually, he got kicked.

Sometimes when people get too wound up in this "stuff" the best thing to do is to take some time away from the board and go cram ships into bottles or something.

People get all too wound up in online communities and think of it as the opposite of it is. That this is a virtual family, or a virtual social club.

Its a debating pool with a cynical edge and a mix of people slightly buoyed by its anonymous nature.

If you can't take it for what it is, and you lose your poop over things that you have no way of knowing if they're serious or not, its the wrong thing for you and a tea house in London England with the niceties of English debating rules might be a better spot.

Wow, I think you've actually managed to craft a list that fails, as completely as possible, to describe the discourse in FOTI.

The guy was taking shots at some new guy for posting with Tap-a-Talk; clearly he had lost it at that point. Unless of course the other poster was the one picking the fight.

Went through 66 pages to see what went on. I do think TTC had a bug in his bonnet from the outset. Nothing so unusual to set him off. As moon indicated, he takes more unpopular opinions and takes grief for it, but at least he tries to explain his position.

To add to flamesfever's list: Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but understand that opinion does not equal fact.

True. But these rules are not applied evenly to all. Some equals are more equal than others here. When a post/opinion is found objectionable, a reaction should be expressed through objections and critique of the opinion/post. Then someone posts "this is idiotic" or "this is ######" or, worse, "you are a ..." and that's how things start to get rough. People that post insults are usually imbeciles themselves for not being able to express their objection eloquently in writing, but getting back at them at their own level, by posting insults is stupid and pointless, so I never do, just ignore them. But, here is an important distinction, mods MUST step in and issue stern warnings to the insulter immediately with the third warning resulting in a ban. For as long as mods continue to allow some cretins to go around and insult other posters freely, bullying and lack of civility will continue to flourish.

It was showing as a Lifetime Suspension last night, but I believe that's the default setting, which is changed after review.

Hmm. I am absolutely certain that I saw sin bin last night. As I just speculated in the PGT, he seems to have taken some things to PM as well.

If you're going to rally against bullying and personal attacks maybe don't call people cretins towards the end of your post.

tbh I think TTC was doing the bullying at first and it backfired . He came in with his nose in the air and basically made us out to be troglodytes cause we enjoy truculent hockey. Then people fired back. ( I told him to go watch basketball)

If more than one guy had agreed with him than the pendulum would of swung the other way and people like me that like truculence would have been the ones getting ganged up on.

I find the board just swings with which ever the popular opinion is and more than once i've been called all sorts of names or told i'm on drugs or stupid or a cotton headed ninny etc.

Point is we all got our own opinions and if someone doesn't like it, I dont care thats my stance and i'm sticking to it. TTC just seemed to get mad that people weren't on board with him imo. Make your point and move on don't keep harping how were all inferior etc then get mad when people take exception to it. RARELY will you ever change anyones mind on this board and hurling insults isn't going to help.
