Anyways for myself, i was diagnosed almost 14 years ago now when my bowel ruptured while i was on vacation. I ended up spending 11 days in hospital recovering from the emergency surgery which they originally thought was supposed to be a outpatient appendectomy.
I had been experiencing symptoms for probably 5 or 6 years prior but was continually misdiagnosed by my GP.
Remicade was a phenomenal drug, however, as they warn you when you start it tends to lose efficacy over time. For me it was ~40 treatments when it was no longer working well enough to justify it. Prednisone also worked fantastically well, however, the more cycles I went through with it the worse my side effects became to the point now where it's no longer a option either.
So for the moment I currently try to manage it through diet, exercise and supplementation with varying degrees of success. As another poster mentioned, diet isn't thought to be a cause of Crohn's but it sure as hell can aggravate things. I would suggest tracking what foods you eat cause the worst symptoms and try to avoid them as much as possible. My list starts with Coffee, alcohol, rice, jalapenos and rare beef.
Unfortunately, I love all of those things so from time to time i just accept that the next few days are going to suck and indugle. Still have to live a little right?
As for supplementation, when I stopped taking the meds I did a bunch of research online as to possible supplements that can help. This is mostly anecdotal evidence so I would suggest doing some research and seeing what seems to work for you. Even if they don't do anything who knows maybe the placebo affect will help.
Here's my current list :
Metamucil, Mutlifibre Sugarfree (single best thing I've ever done to help manage the symptons)
glutamine
Fish Oil
Probiotics
2000 ui vit D
multivitamin
One thing if you start taking Metamucil, for the first couple weeks I was gassy and bloated, once my body adjusted to the increased fibre those went away.
