Very happy for Backlund! Based on his recent performance, I think Stajan is finished in Calgary and will be traded soon. Happy to see Stempniak get one finally..

I was really hoping that Gio goal would count just for the off-chance it could help him with his Olympic bid.

Would you take the 10th overall pick in the next draft for Backlund?

I know I wouldn't and he better not be on the trade block.

Actually, it was his first goal in 19 games. His last goal was Saturday Dec. 7th 2013 in a 2-1 win vs the coilers.

I would and I'd make them take it before the other GM sobered up.

I would take that in a heartbeat. He isn't worth near that much though.

Despite one month of ood play, Mr Backlund has not yet established himself as a bonafide NHL player. I think he has to maintain this level of play to avoid having to go overseas to continue his career.

I hope he makes it, but consistency is an ongoing issue for him

You've pined over a girl for two years, slept with her and then broken up the morning after, haven't you?

Why isn't he worth that? The chances of a 10th overall pick developing into Backlund is very slim.

Larf.

He is clearly an everyday NHL player at this point.

Hahaha wow I actually didn't even catch the last part of your post. Backlund having to go overseas?

You must have missed the reports that several teams were calling the Flames about Backlund. He will never be a star but he does all the little things right and is emerging as a leader. Backlund will have a long career in the NHL. Teams are always looking for a defensively responsible center who can pot the odd goal.

I'm waiting for AC to post the gif. Trust me it was epic. Backs and Jones had a WWE style match in front of the Pred net.

A lot goes into this overall equation. The goal to me after what will be a long rebuild, will be the emergence of a team that can hopefully get to the final 4 (and beyond) for 2-3 seasons (at least!).

I'm hoping CP understands that goals against CAR and NSH, when we've been long eliminated from the post season, should be weighted against performance vs. the elite teams.

He still plays a soft game, hoping he continues to put up points and can be moved eventually, but not for a late pick, but as part of a deal to bring in a top prospect or high pick.

Getting rid of Stajan to make room for him is silly, he had this "room" early this year and did nothing with it. If we move or don't move Stajan - it should solely be because it makes sense because of the return.
