Thats awesome, I put a list of games together that I want and I'm going to use that site at lunch here to see how stupid this is, lol.

Edit: List and prices up. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. I'm not that interested to pay more than a new game so I will search for garage sale deals this summer for most of it.

Thanks to my parents and the hoarder gene that was passed onto me, we still have our old NES and a bunch of games (River City Ransom FTW!). IIRC, there were always problems with getting them to work; maybe it was just our old machine but is that still an issue?

Well, looking at your list...you want to play some of the rarer and more expensive games for those systems, so it shouldn't surprise you that you're going to have to pay out for them. I highly recommend getting used to using the Wii/Wii U Classic Controller Pro and saving yourself a ton of money on a ton of those games. That or buy a PS4 controller and use emulators if you're not interested in investing that much into games. Finally, consider buying the japanese version of the carts if the game doesn't contain much text. I purchased Rockman X2 in Japanese (Mega Man X2) saving $40, and guess what...everything but the speeches characters gives are still in English, and I didn't buy it for the riveting story. If I really want that, I'll play the Mega Man X Collection on my PS2. The maverick names are pretty badass in the Japanese version too! (Stuff like Sonic Ostreague instead of Overdrive Ostrich)

All the prices you listed there are reasonable and have been about that price for the last year, which is when I started following the prices closely. I bought Bucky O'Hare (NES) for $40 cart only last year, and haven't seen it under $50 since. Pay out for the classics.

EDIT: Yes, Japanese carts won't initially work on the North American SNES, but all you have to do is snap off a couple pieces of plastic inside the system and it works. Took 2 minutes to make it work.

You probably don't need to get Dracula X, that is unless you want every game in the series I suppose. Super Castlevania IV is a far superior game, and if you play Dracula X after IV it's a pretty big let down. Not a terrible game mind you, but Castlevania IV is tits.

That and of course it costs a ton; I actually have it, but barely play it compared to how many times I've passed IV.

Yeah i'm sure I will pass on some of the games like Dracula X unless I find a copy in a box in a garage sale. As for Mega Man i'm in the same boat, I have the xbox mega man collection and Mega man X collection for PS2 so its only if I find cheap copies.

The problem with emulators is that they don't work 100% and some games have major issues on them such as super dodge ball. I would never spend that much on those rarer games though.

Those prices are out to lunch. I've never seen Super Metroid for under $100. Usually sells for $160. I've rarely seen Zelda: A Link to the past for under $60. Most super nintendo games sell for $20 flat minimum just because it is a super nintendo game. Original Nintendo is much more affordable, but even there, Final Fantasy is rarely if ever less than $20, if not usually closer to $45. Same with River City Ransom. Those prices are garage sale prices, not realistic prices, in my experience.

My advice? Go half way. Get an emulator, try out the games you want, find out which games don't work on the emulator, then make a list - a smaller list - of games you are looking for, and games you would buy on sale. Then look. It will take years to get a small collection if you don't want to pay through the nose for it, but it can be fun. Kijiji and stores for games that aren't rare , but that you want (Like Dragon Warrior, you used to be able get that at Video Game Trader for $15 or so). Garage sales, flea markets, pawn shops, and even conventions for the rest. But it will take some real leg work if you don't want to pay up for anything. The only reason those last three work, is because the people who are selling it don't know what they have (which doesn't always happen with those, either). On the internet, they do know what they have, and price it accordingly.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40

There are 7 copies of Super Metroid under $40. The value is only going up because of resellers inflating prices and normal sellers using that as a pricing point. Its a sad circle.

I was impatient when I built my first collection and paid to much for most of the games on ebay, I won't make that mistake this time as I am older and wiser. lol

$160 for Super Metrioid? Maybe for a new, or mint copy. Just because some crackpots on kijiji sell them for extremely high prices does not mean that's what the value is. Heck I wish they were worth that much as I'd be listing mine right now. Earthbound and a couple others are the only ones worth that much (loose copies at least).

Interesting price list.. I have thought about starting to collect old games again.. when I was younger my degenerate brother took all of my games/systems and dumped them at the local video game store. Before they worth a lot, but still rare to find. Games like Shining Force 1 and 2, Final Fantasy 2, SNES Zelda and various others. Including my Gensis, original Game Boy and SNES. Drugs are a mysterious thing.. I never understood them.

The only ones that survived were ones I left at a friends house, Ogre Battle (PS), Ogre Battle 64 and FF3 SNES. Since then I've grabbed a few more like Tactics Ogre, Vandal Hearts 1 (awesome) and 2 (puke).

Emulators are fun, but there is something nostalgic about firing up the system and playing it on the actual console with the actual control

I added up all the games that I have and if I were to sell them individually I would gross around $180

My most notable games are Contra ($22), MegaMan 2 ($19), Super Mario Bros 3 ($12), Robocop ($9) StarTrek ($9), and Big Nose ($9)
A lot of games $4 - $7

Funny, my the cheapest game at $3.13 is one of my favourites Ice Hockey.

I have a massive collection and an even bigger Hyperspin setup with pretty much every game ever, from arcade to GameCube. I do not sell anything but pick up the odd rare game.

I do have a great resource who sells NES loaded with every Nintendo game ever. Maybe we should setup a group buy?

That's a cool site -

One of my prize finds, Skies of Arcadia Legends for Gamecube. I picked it up for 4.99 used at an EB Games a couple years ago and it's worth $50. Cool!

So this is how it starts. I was in Lethbridge for work today so stopped by a thrift store and found a boxed sega genesis with games for $30. Now it's not a nintendo but it's a good deal. Now I'm hooked.

Edit: I didn't really check it out when I bought it but It came with Sonic 2, Sonic Spinball, power, RF, and 3 controllers.

Wow that videogame price site is awesome, my NES collection alone is probably in the 2-3k range after just taking a quick look, wish I'd known snes games were gonna have as much value as they do now when I was hitting up cash converters before they realized 10$ was to little to charge for FF3
