What exactly were you expecting out of this season? This is going exactly how I envisioned this year going....

Galiardi, stempniak, stajan, butler, and cammalleri will likely be gone by the trade deadline. That will likely bring back a few average prospects/picks. Hopefully baertschi, knight, Reinhart, and billins get a call up after that.

I knew they were going to be bad, but the entertainment factor is non-existent.

I can't imagine anyone wants to watch this brutal hockey.

Don't think there's much *to* do....there are few on the Flames that other teams might want other than for insurance. I can see a small market for Cammi, and a very minor market for Wideman, Stajan or Glennie (maybe). But that is not going to change the team in any substantive way.

Patience and planning will go a lot further that panic. Suckage is at hand, and there is not much to do but wait the process through.

If the last six weeks are any indication, Kris Russell might actually be an MVP candidate... They fell off the map without him.

I can't wait for the STH price increase and the inevitable beer price increase at the dome!

I'm not sure the bolded have much trade value...if any at this rate. I'm not even sure the unbolded will bring much.

Not saying the Flame wouldn't be looking to trade them, but who wants them? I mean, if you were a playoff team, why would you want a guy coming off the worst cold streak of his career?

So no playoffs this year?

We do need Russell back. Call up Granlund too.

Be patient and stay the course. The reality of what we are seeing isn't nice but that's what you get with a rebuild. We've seen some good, bad and ugly hockey and I don't expect to see that change any time soon.

My biggest fear has to do with Burke and his impatience. Will he short circut the rebuild and try and bring in more vets to calm the masses? I'm all for trades and such but they have to be good ones that will benefit this team long term and not just the short.

Playing bad on one of the worst 3 teams in the league doesn't change a players value from good to nothing. That's not how it works. GM's and scouts will have watched these guys for years, for their whole careers. The last month of their career is a small snapshot and doesn't exclusively dictate their value. They will base their value on how these guys have played for years. GM's and scouts know its hard to look good on an abysmally bad team with no depth. They won't be acquiring these guys based on how well they've played the last few games. They would acquire them based on how well they might play on their team, as a supporting cast player.

This seems to be a common misconception around this board right now.

Warrener said Burke has to get rid of these guys now, as they are a combined -73 or something, and their stock is going no where but down.
I have to agree with him.

Well there is really nothing to be done on ice til the summer, much as it pains me.

A GM in the building would be swell, so at least the deadline moves and draft prep would be more than just truclence. Give the paying fans a discount for the deliberate utter #### product and be honest about whether next year continues the oiler rebuild would be nice too, but it ain't happening.

There's so much deadweight on this team, it's ridiculous. Seriously, which non-injured Flames players would you actually pay to watch hockey, if you could pick and choose?

For me, that list starts and ends with Giordano.

They need to get rid of some of the useless checked-out vets and replace them with the likes of Granlund and Baertschi. It looks like the decision had been made to keep Monahan in the midst of this mess, so why not bring up a few of his buds?

It's going to be a long few years of rebuilding, but there should be some entertainment value to it. It's a game,FFS.

This is why I was so pissed off at sending Sven down, When Sean and Sven were playing together you would see the future being built.

Even if it's one or two nice offensive plays a game the paying fans had something to talk about other than the crap were seeing.

The Flames are -42. It should be expected that there will be some pretty crappy +/- on our team.

GM's aren't trading for players based on +/-. Only on messageboards is that a determiner of player values.

Baertschi wasn't really developing well up here. He wasn't playing well enough to hold his spot. Monahan has been much more consistent than Sven.

And so far Sven hasn't done enough in Abby to warrant a recall either.

Send down Monahan. I don't want him to see the effort by the vets and think its ok. Thats how the Oilers are screwing up Eberle

I would agree with this if Stempniak, Jones, and Galiardi were doing anything to earn keeping their spots.

Not including the Colorado game, the Flames have scored 1 goal in 6 games.

Rebuild or not, I don't think it's out of the question to look for a change. Personally, I think it's a cop out to shrug your shoulders and say "oh well, rebuild!". They still have a team made of up 60-80% legitimate NHLers.
