Wouldn't Stajan be eligible for team Slovenia?

Matt is the son of Mike and Nada Stajan, and he has an elder sister, Michelle. He and his wife Katie have lived in Calgary since his trade from Toronto. He is of Slovenian descent. Both of his sets of grandparents immigrated to Canada in the 1950s. His paternal grandfather, Ludvic, started a company that manufactures fire doors that Mike and an uncle took over. Stajan wore uniform number 14 throughout his youth career and with the Maple Leafs in honour of his uncle Robert, who wore the number in his own hockey career and died of cancer when Matt was a young boy

Being of Slovenian decent I find it pretty incredible that a country with a population of 2 million people can qualify both the World Cup (South Africa in 2010) and Olympic Hockey. What's even crazier is there is less than 1000 people in the country who play hockey.

Israel is actually reasonably good - they're in Group IIA for this years worlds. There are two whole groups below that: Group IIB (Spain, New Zealand, Mexico, China, Turkey, South Africa) and Group III (Bulgaria, North Korea, Luxembourg, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Georgia). Also Ireland, Mongolia and Greece entered the 2013 championships but don't seem to be there for 2014. Some high quality hockey being played there among these teams no doubt.

I think he would need to get his Slovenian citizenship and live there for a minimum period of time in order to qualify.
