Had this , except inserted Letang over Seabrook who in the NHL I prefer but I thought he looked awful on the big ice in 2010.

Can't stand Subban for a lot of reasons, but if Canada's in a game where they need a goal there's no defenseman in the league today that can generate offense like him.

With 8 D on the team, it would take an unprecedented run of injuries before they were forced to put Subban in a top 4 role, so I'm confident they can shelter him in games where they need to defend a lead.

He's too good offensively, and not weak enough defensively, to leave him off the team.

Subban needs to be the eighth.

With 7 d-men dressed you can hide him when you are up a goal, but you need his gamebreaking ability when you are down a goal late in the game.

I'm leaving Bouwmeester off the team just because he hasn't shown he can play in a lot of big game situations. His playoff experience is minuscule. I'd rather have a bunch of big game performers on the blueline personally.

If you have a lineup of Perry - Getzlaf - Nash or Stamkos - Crosby - Benn or Sharp - Toews - Carter with any of Weber, Pietrangelo, Keith or Doubghty on the ice, do you REALLY need Subban to push you over the top?

That's what it comes down to for me. Subban was probably the toughest player out of them all to finally place for me.

It probably just comes down to personal stylistic preference. I'm more Hitchcock than Bylsma, I put Vlasic on the team and have Boyle and Hamonic as my spares.

I definitely see the arguments for Subban though. Interesting though that I seem to share common ground with supporters of Subban on the team when it comes to deficiencies.

I wonder how many posters have Subban in the top 6 vs. the top 8.

I feel the same Flash. For being on the big ice and the stakes, you'll need defenders who can hold their own against the best in the world. So he wouldn't be in my top 6, but his offensive prowess is good enough to justify having him over as a 7th defender.

They used NHL ice in 2010.

I have Subban as my 7th d to play PP and against garbage teams.

Only way he plays 5 on 5 against good teams is if Canada is down in my view.

I think there may be a surprise pick like Methot or someone. I hope it's Gio, but I think will be Vlasic or a wild card.

So far I view it like the discussions about byfuglien or yandle for team usa. In a short tournament against the best in the world, is subban reliable enough? Have lots of defenders with similar offense and skating and I'm not sure if what he brings displaces those other guys.
PK is a gamechanger is why he should go. He can create offense getting the puck into the oppositions zone on his own and fairly easily when he's motivated. He's also got a really strong shot and can hit like a semi-truck. Leaving PK off the team would be foolish, he makes mistakes but makes up for it by being a powerhouse in all areas of the game. You have the puck and you see Subban charging at you and you think twice about what you were about to do, just too impactful to leave out.

Doughty, Keith, Seabrook, Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester, Weber, Boyle, Giordano.

I don't think you leave Dan Boyle off... he's a very good all round defenceman with experience.

Subban should be left home.

Yes he's a game breaker but with the stacked roster Canada has they don't need that from him - there's over a dozen other guys on the team that can provide that and don't have the risk to cost you the tournament.

Accidentally forgot about Seabrook in the poll so remove Vlasic. Giordano should get the 8th spot due to versatility and character. Also he's playing well this year again reinforcing that its important to go with the hot hand in a short tournament.

Subban would be in my top six over J-Bo, but overall there isn't much controversy on D it seems. Bouwmeester won't hurt the team, but I don't think he'd contribute much either... he'd just be "there". Subban has the potential to win games for Canada.

Doughty-Weber
Keith-Seabrooke
Pietrangelo-Subban
Boumeester-Giordano

I'd be so pumped to see Gio on the team. I think he actually has a good chance too.

Gio absolutely does not deserve to go over Vlasic. It's not even close. People are really underrating him.

For all his faults and as frustrating as he could be here, Bouwmeester should be a lock for the Olympics. His skating is perfect for the big ice and his lack of physical game becomes much less important in this type of tournament. He really is a good shut-down defender. He'll be there.
